Contrary to popular belief... The PF can't be completely turned off. Windows will still use a very small invisible PF since some programs won't run without one.

I never understood this debate. The only reason to disable your pagefile is if you're running out of hard drive space--which is not the case for nearly all systems out there these days.

Having a pagefile won't hurt you. Leave it as system-managed. If the computer doesn't need it, it won't access it--if it does need it, then there's a reason for it. But removing it entirely makes no sense anymore. IIRC, Photoshop freaks out if there isn't a pagefile. Matlab also doesn't play well without one.

Off, I have 8gb of ram, I haven't encountered any programs that freak out with it off.
I guess if I run into that, then i will deal with it at that time.
Really can't see the logic in disabling it.

Many of the apps I run require a page file. The problem of not having a page file is the risk of BSOD because your system runs out of memory.
the only reason page-file was created is because most computers didn't have enough Physical ram to be able to run everything Now in the day that we have 12+GB systems Pagefile should be abolished. virtual ram is slower that physical (even if you're using an ssd) i currently have mine set to 500mb and have 9Gb of ram. i wish i could turn it off but programmers apparently think they need it
post #18 of 55
I've got 8GB of RAM, and I still use it. I have it set to 1024MB min and max. Like its been said, I've found programs that freak out if its not on, so I just leave it on, but a smaller size.

Just set to 1gb so all my programs work. I have 8gb of RAM so I can run a ton of VMs and not worry about needing to use the PF even when allocating 512mb+ to 5+ VMs.
