My first plans are:
Upgrade the graphics card as the current one sucks!
and a better CPU cooler (as silent as possible!) any suggestions?
i also need to open it up and check the power supply etc...

in total (inc. monitor) it was $750.
i think it was a bargain!

any feedback highly welcomed

thanks!

That build is using quite outdated hardware

I reccomend change

Processor to I7-2600K
Motherboard to Asus p8p67 Pro
Graphics to atleast Evga Gt 430
And a 30$$ Cooler Master Hyper 212 cooler

Then my friend, you are set for a while

I think your memory (RAM) is off a bit there. I don't think you can install that much without a Westmere architecture (I thought 16 GB was the max currently) but I can be mistaken, of course. And, I believe you have one too many zeros on your installed RAM.

Here is one of my systems if you want to check it out:

really?!
the i7 950 is outdated already!
pffff hardware tech moves too fast for me.

i dont eveb play games, just for design so i'll stick with it for now at least!
thanks for the feedback, i'll look at the cooler you mentioned.
and definitely the graphics card.
not sure i fancy updating the motherboard just yet, i think it'll do for now.
is it really not very good then?

is the machine at least a good value overall for $750 USD?

No it's not, the NEW i7's aren't to replace socket 1366. That would be socket 2011/1356. As for design purposes that is a fine rig.

Nah, the new intel CPU's are to replace the i7's that don't have hyperthreading.

When Ivy-Bridge comes out later this year, then your computer will technically be "outdated" but then again, what electronics aren't now a days?

fantastic for design. However if you're using visual C or c# i recommend getting a Cuda based card, like the guy above said. You can use the cuda cores to code in C. One cheap low end cuda card will outperform the i7 alone in that situation.
