It's a good cooler, and it skirts the line between "water cooling" and "air cooling"...

I reccomend change

Processor to I7-2600K
Motherboard to Asus p8p67 Pro
Graphics to atleast Evga Gt 430
And a 30$$ Cooler Master Hyper 212 cooler

Then my friend, you are set for a while
im just curious as to how you can justify the op spending tons of money on a new motherboard/cpu when the ones he has are atleast 2x more than what he actually needs. just because the i7-950 isnt of the newest architecture doesnt mean its obsolete.

to the op: dont buy a new cpu/mobo as you wont see any realworld performance gains. I do recommend you upgrade your video card to maybe a low end fermi card like a gtx 460 1gb. you can get them from newegg for like 150-225. Id wait until you find an open box deal and grab 1 for 150 bucks or so.

also your ram, if i read correctly, is 10gb total. i beleive with your current ram configuration it is running in single channel mode only. i would get rid of that 2gb stick and move the two 4gb sticks in the correct color coded channels. this way you can take advantage of the dual channeled feature your motherboard has.

the h70 is not worth it. not to offend anyone. but any top end air cooler will put the h50/h70 to shame. for what it costs its not worth it. if you want a great cooler go with the silver arrow or the nh d-14. both of which are cheaper than the h70 and will outperform it as well.

Hmm, well people here tend to like the h50/h70 when it comes to "quiet" computing because it tends to do that exactly, be quite haha.

And performance of the h50/70 should be similar to that of top end air coolers.

thanks AliceInChains, i was advised elsewhere about removing the 2GB stick, i think i'll do that soon.

my CPU-Z says channel mode is "tripple" does that mean its "available" or that its "running"? i thought i read somewhere that this machine could run in tripple mode without matching sticks...probably a newb statement.

yea sorry, i meant to say tripple not double. forgot you had x58 not p55. it meants its available. if you get rid of the 2gb chip, and grab another 4gb(preferably identical to the two you already have) you will be running tripple channel

edit: what is your computer reporting as available memory? right click my computer and go to properties. it might be possible to run tripple channel with that setup, but the 4gb chips will be reported as 2gb chips. i could be wrong about this though

awesome.

the h70 can be noisey if the fan is noisey...you can find a cheap yate loon for like 4 bucks that is quite, and unless you overclock like crazy will keep you very cool and be very silent...

alice, i agree with you, but he was really looking for silent, and nhd 14 is an awesome choice for that if he buys some quieter fans for it.
that is all
