Hello Overclockers! Been to this site a few times and just recently signed up. Currently haven't had the chance to try my hand at overclocking, but I'll be giving it a go when I get off my work hitch this Thursday.

Current gaming setup:

Q9550 2.83ghz w/ Zalman Cooler
Asus P5N-D 750i SLI mobo
Corsair XMS2 8gb DDR2 800 ram
Corsair 60gb SSD / 1TB WD HD
Corsair 950W PS
Rosewell Cruiser Gaming Case
2x GTX 460s
All this displayed on 3x Hanns G 28" monitors.

Yes, I am a fan of Corsair. I've been using their products since I started piecing computers together and I have had 0 issues : ). Once I upgrade some parts, these will be put in a spare case along with some spare parts and I'll be trying my hand at overclocking the 9550!

Ordering tomorrow and stepping up to the new Sandy Bridge...maybe will be overclocking once I feel comfortable and hopefully learn everything from Oc'n the 9550

I7-2600k Sandy Bridge
Intel BOXDP67BG mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813121474
Cooler Master V6 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835103089
Corsair 16gb ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820233143

I know the ram is way overkill, but I never know what I'll be getting into in the future. lol

Any criticism is appreciated but i'll be updating this post with any overclocking I achieve and hopefully some pics of everything setup!

Thanks,
Tommy

Welcome to OCN.

Well first of all I would DEFINITELY recommend getting rid of some of that RAM. You won't be able to use all of that gaming until long after DDR4 is released, making that RAM obsolete anyway.

The motherboard also HAS to go. Intel motherboards are bad, especially if you want to overclock. Get this it is a FAR better board.

You'll be happy with the cooler though I think. It is one of the higher end coolers. Good luck with your build and be sure to post any other questions you have.

Thanks!

Yes, I wasn't partial to the mobo which is one of the reasons I posted my upcoming build. I figured someone would of had better insight to a mobo much better than this .

If you really liked your old Asus board, the Asus P8P67-Pro board will work just as well as the UD4. Even if you didn't like your P5N-D (I know I hated mine) don't be discouraged from using Asus. The P8P67-Pro is an excellent board.

Get a better board like the MSI or if you can scratch some more cash get the Asus or Gigabyte ones..i like the UD4..

get the new Ripjaws for SB..their affordable and will perfectly match the platform your building..will also save you some cash for a nice cooler other than the V6..V6 is more on the looks than the performance..well eitherway your ram choice is Wicked!!

for your old setup..well 4gb will do the job plus the Q9550 will still fare..

Welcome to OCN Brotha!!!

I never had the pleasure to oc my old mobo, but I'll be doing it this week I get off work. Sending my old parts along with some lay around HD/PS/case and gonna have my OC workplace to learn/test/try/break....i mean make quicker!

But all in all I haven't had one problem with my current setup, its just time to rejoin the tech world with the new Sandy Bridge

For me, OC'ing with the P5N-D was pretty difficult. Though it may just have been that I had a bad chip.

Good luck anyway though.

I will be taking your 2 460s thank you >.> *grabs and takes off*

jk

Welcome to the forums and have a loot around and don't be shy. Although your board isn't the best for overclocking, I see at least 3.6Ghz in your future. As for the 460s, if you get some good ones with nice VIDs I see at 800-900Mhz overclock ^_^

I've used G Skill once before for a friends pc and never had a problem, I'm just a happy customer of Corsair on alot of the products I have purchased over the years. I'll tone it down on the RAM but i'll still be sticking with ol' faithful. lol

Thanks for the info and I'll be having a look at the mobos you guys posted, just happy I have suggestions so I didn't go with the actual intel board.
