Hi, everyone. I'm thinking about buying a good MB for 2600K, for about 200$, I'm kinda stuck between GD80 and asrock fatality. which one is more stable with CPU overclocked to 5Ghz?

Now you know what we are going to tell you in this MSI GD80/65/55/53 thread...right?

Yeah sure, I think I just asked question in the wrong way. I'm asking about a little feedback on overclocking using GD80. Cause I broke UD4 yesterday, due to some bios bugs with Vcore. So I want to know how stable GD80 is.

I have not had anytime to do any OC'ing with this mobo...still running @ stock speed. However, you can pm NuclearCrap and check with him. He's been OC'ing & stress testing the GD80 & currently sitting stable @ 5GHz w/ a vcore of 1.4v. Also, if you go to the 1st page of this thread, you will find a few review links for the GD80.

The ones on the left end (closest to power button / oc genie) are Marvell, and then the last two sets are Intel chipset. There was a difference in performance, after I switched ports and cables. I had been using the white cable that came with the motherboard (with a 90 degree connector on one end) for the SSD, but to get the cable in P0 (the lower Intel SATA III port), I had to use an older SATA II cable (which is apparently the same as a SATA III, just without the click connector). I then put my data drive and optical drive on the Marvell bus...

After all that, I did get an improvement in Windows Experience index for hard drives, from 7.2 to 7.8. w00t! The limiting factor in terms of experience index is now the processor, at 7.7
So, if I am reading this correctly, the Intel SATAIII Ports are the ones closest to the RAM/CPU? I ordered a SATAIII SSD and want to make sure I port it to the best location.

Overclocking the GD80 is really no different than overclocking with GD53/55/65, just with a lot less VDroop. At the end of the day, stabilizing a 2600K @ 5GHz really depends on your chip and cooling. I've seen lots of 2600Ks needing closer to 1.5V to achieve the same OC, and these do get quite a bit hotter than 2500Ks.
