MSI P67A-GD80/GD65/GD55/GD53 Owners Club/Discussion/Info Thread - Page 162

So I just picked up my mobo and 2500k chip. My bois below shows the equipment that I currently have. I need to start picking up some other equipment.

Trying to get some good suggestions for the following.

Video card: Was thinking 6950 2gb. 1 monitor 1 video card.

Memory: 8gb of g skill or corsair vengeance

Cooler: Trying to find something that will work with the case, mobo and memory. Was thinking of the ZALMAN CNPS9700 LED 110mm.

Any suggestions?

You choice of Video card is excellent and both brands of Memory are good, but you might want to check that cooler fits socket 1155 boards as the only info i found, points to it being Intel socket 775, unless a different mounting kit can be bought separately.
I have a Zalman cooler (listed in my sig) that is very good IMO and might make a good alternative for you. Almost any socket 1155 cooler should work with your set up though

His case has 17 cm of clearance for a CPU cooler, so he can fit anything in there (NH-D14, Ven X, and Megahalems all fit). Only has to worry about RAM clearance.

The case clearance is good to know thanks, i was looking at getting that case as my next upgrade. I was lucky with this one as my cooler went in with only 2mm to spare but i really wanted a Noctua which wouldn't have fit

I agree about the RAM clearance, I went with the Kingston HyperX just in case slot 1 was blocked by the Fan. . . . . and if I had of bought the Corsair Vengeance that i wanted originally, I would have had issues! As it is, my fan almost rests on the top of my RAM, I have had to slide the Fan up slightly so it doesn't touch it!

Corsair's new low profile version of the Vengeance is perfect for those situations. I had originally purchased the normal Vengeance and my Hyper 212+ and I had to mount the fan almost an inch up the heatsink. I returned the Vengeance and got the low profile and it was perfect.

It's not the prime stability that i'd worry about but the idle. That's when it BSOD for me and a lot of other people so I had to raise core voltage to 1.41.

so newegg.com is going to have a promotion on the following memory. It doesnt say its low profile but looks like it might fit with any of the coolers mentioned above.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231314

any thoughts if this will work with space.

I don't have any experience with other coolers but i can tell you that with mine, those red parts of the heat spreaders that stick up on the top would definitely be in the way. The RAM that garath mentioned is the same price and speed as what you linked to and would rule out any clearance issues: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...scrollFullInfo

If you're dead set on RAM with the fancy, tall heat spreaders, then googling reviews of different coolers until you find one that has adequate clearance for that type of RAM would be a good idea
