Not necessary if everything works. The best way to update is to use the MSI HQ flashing tool, but M-Flash in the UEFI works fine too.

I highly recommend the MSI HQ Flashing tool using a USB stick especially if flashing to a beta bios. It is a well thought out thorough routine leaving no stone unturned. I've been flashing bios for years more times than I care to count and found the basic routine like ezflash or flashing in windows problematic at best because the lack command line switches found in a DOS routine that help eliminate the common issue of a failed flash. Like remembering to set defaults before you flash and setting defaults again after the flash. They are simply to simple not thorough enough to get the job done right. This tool should be an industry standard and sets MSI apart from the other IMHO. Using DOS with a floppy disc is old school but extremely effective if you know how to use it. MSI simplifies this and add all the necessary switches including backing up the existing bios to the USB.

>>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<

I certainly understand your concern about bricking the board this tool however is the insurance you need. When new bios become available all you have to do is add the .rom file to the stick and you are good to go just boot to the drive and point to it. It could not be more simple.

The good news FYI: Source Reply #48

This forum is not official MSI. There are no warranty concerns, as the beta's 'are' official MSI releases. No one here will have an answer when a final version will be released. Updates for what? Revisions are not drivers, but may add features & address compatibility issues, etc. If a problem area is found, the engineers have to duplicate it & then work on the fix.
If nobody reports a problem, or they don't have any features to maybe include, I don't think they develop a UEFI/BIOS revision just for something to do.

If you have something that needs attention, contact MSI Tech Support & let them know about it; http://support.msi.com/

They say 1.13 (D) is the most stable.. but I prefer the newest 1.14 (E)

1.D, the two versions after that have a bug that cause the CPU to not run at the correct speed.

Okie, thanks, will get that bios if the bios that comes with the board isn't up to it. I read that it only has 6 phase VRM, it'll handle normal overclocks right? Any horror stories so far regarding this board?

I've got a 2500k and an MSI P67A-GD53. If I set the multiplier to say 47, and bump up voltages a bit, and tried turning off all the power management stuff, then run prime95 -- my multiplier in CPU-Z starts around 44 then drops to say 43. What gives? Even if I set it to 45, it drops. I tried increasing the short duration / long duration power limits a little bit, since I found some topic saying that might be the problem.. but it didn't seem to make a difference.

Temperatures are around mid 60s. I've turned back on the power saving stuff because I really don't want to turn that off -- and I'm getting the same results. I've read there is supposed to be an option in the MSI BIOS to turn off turbo but it's not there. It even says it in my manual, but it's not there.. maybe they removed it in a BIOS revision? I'm using 1E. What's the bug in 1E that the original post refers to?

If you read two posts up your answer awaits you there.

Flash the bios down to 1D - you'll probably need to start at a lower multiplier to begin with instead of shooting straight to 47 smil3dbd4e4c2e742.gif
