MSI P67A-GD80/GD65/GD55/GD53 Owners Club/Discussion/Info Thread - Page 19

I've used many different board manufactures past and presenst, and MSI has not been one of them. I wasn't sure about them, but a lot of people have had nothing but good things to say about them. I am giving them a shot. I just installed my new MSI Twin Frozr II 570 the other day. I'm loving the hell out of it. CPU magazine did a benchmark with the GD65 in last months issue, and compaired single GPU vs SLI with 560 Ti's. In their test, the board returned results of an average 80-90% scaling with SLI. That says a lot, but It will be several months before I slap another Twin Frozr it first hand.

The boards that are shipping now are the repaired boards. Intel recalled all cougar point chips. You want to look for "B3 stepping" if shopping for a sandy bridge capable mobo.

I edited my statement after further reading. Thanks

So I'm looking at this board instead of waiting for the Asus... One question about the memory: Can I use the G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) F3-12800CL7D-4GBXM for this Mobo? It's not called out specifically in the MSI memory specs I found (URL below), and everything MSI has in those specs seems to be designed for P55 or X58 boards...

yeah you can use them. I think however you would need to overclock the ram to get to 1600 check the manual on the msi website. I bought crucial ballistix ddr3 1600 and am not really worried.

On every P67 board, it defaults to DDR3-1333. You have to go into the bios and either set the DDR speed to DDR3-1600 or enable XMP profile. It'll accomplish the same thing technically if you leave the bclk alone.

I heard the RAM slots are close to the cpu for all p67 boards. So Most likely it will block a slot

Using that 38mm fan, it will hover over 2 ram slots. Only 1 ram slot will be covered with the 25mm fan. If you use standard height ram, there will be no clearance issues.
