PII 965, too hot, and bottlenecking

Hello there, I have a 5850 and want to upgrade the rest of my config on the siggy.

Im thinking about the M4A79XTD EVO and Phenom II X4 965

But someone metioned that it runs abit hot(55~70) and that at 4Ghz bottlenecks a 5870 on crossfire.

Im worried because I want to crossfire with a 5870/50 later.

Also, is that motherboard any good?

thanks

What cooler are you running?

Also, no, 4Ghz won't bottleneck a 5870, anything above 3.4 - 3.6 Ghz will be fine.

It might also be your PSU (less likely) not sure how great they are and if there is a lot of ripple on the rails.

given the 5870's are also powerful cards to date yes might be a quad core is bottlenecking it unless somethings fubar on the system..

Here another topic, detailing how horrible a Q8400 is

Ohhhh

I misread, I thought you had the 965 already.

Not sure about the q8400. Might be an issue but I don't know. Sorry

you'll be fine with 965. Pare it with proper cooling and it won't be an issue.

I'm selling an Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 motherboard, which is better in every respect to the board you mentioned, and the same price too. PM me if your interested.
