Questionnaire: Watercooling Help!

Thread Starter
Hello people.

I have a couple of questions that are in need of being answered.

1. Is it possible to put 2 of these resvoviors in a 800D in the same loop? What are the negative affects this will have on cooling?

2. I'm trying to purchase most of my stuff from Australia, this seem quite problematic and not very straight forward. As there is really only 1 website I trust and is quite easy on the eyes.

www.pccasegear.com.au

This question is. Is there any other shops around that are in Australia, that specialize in water-cooling and are quite trustworthy?

3. Can someone please explain to me the difference in compression fittings ID and OD, I can't seem to rap my head around it.

Say I wanted to purchase these compression fittings.

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...ducts_id=14410

Would these work with this tubing?

http://www.gammods.com.au/store/inde...oducts_id=2004

4. Is it a bad idea to mix this radiator?

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...ducts_id=13021

And these fans.

5. Say I have to make a tight bend with my tubing, how should I go about doing this? Should I use 45 degree compression fittings? or should I just extend the tubing a little to make it work?

Thank you for the help.

Modori.

The reason tubing has ID and OD is because it's wall adds to its thickness so the OD has to be bigger than the ID. (ID+wall thickness=OD).

Yes, the tubing and fittings do match and will work great. Just make sure the ID/OD of your hose and fittings match, witch those do.

I would advise against adding a 2nd reservoir; it won't help temps, it'd be more expensive and it would look rather odd.

The GTs you pictured are great radiator fans, I'd use all GTs rather then mixing with the excaliburs. The GTs have a higher static pressure and will be more effective.

Sorry, but being in the US- I can't comment on the store issue.

Thats fine.

Yeah, this site is really confusing about the fittings and meeting the tubing requirements. Doing my head in.

I want two reservoirs sheerly for the aesthetic reasons. I reckon one on the side near the hot swap bay and one below the graphics cards. I reckon it would look good. IMO.

Yeah, I was thinking that, 360 on the top, Excalibur's pulling out of the top of the case, and GTs pushing air through the 360. Could be a bad idea, I don't know.

Thank you for your help.

What do you want to cool? If you're only cooling, say, 1 CPU and 1 Graphics card, getting two 360 radiators would be a complete waste of money. Furthermore, you'd need to add two pumps (they would need to be exactly the same as you run the risk of burning one of them out if they're difference) to the loop in order to provide enough pressure to get the water around both of the radiators.

Do the smart thing, get one radiator, mount it at the top of your 800D and be happy

As for tubing, I say try to avoid fittings if at all possible. The goal is to use the least tubiing possible however it's usually easier to bend it to your liking than have to buy fittings. Avoid 90-degree fittings like the plague.

EDIT: Just noticed your question about the store. Check out Gammods.com.au, sometimes they're out of stock on basic things but for stuff that is in stock they're awesome.

If you are afraid of kinks, you could get some Anti Kink Coils.

Could you Elaborate why?

Yeh, they lower the Flow a bit, but they are better than kinks, no?

ID = Inner Diameter of the tube
OD = Outter Diameter of the tube

You just answered that question in your post.

If you buy decent tubing at a decent size, kinks won't be a problem anyway. I believe the smallest tubing size you can get that will be flexible and won't kink is 3/8" ID, 5/8" OD (correct me if I am wrong). If in doubt, just go for 1/2" ID 3/4" OD (or 7/16" ID with 1/2" barbs so you don't have to use clamps/compression fittings). It's flexible enough to bend easily (I speak from experience) and won't kink no matter how hard you try.

Better to have a little more cable than a reduced flow because of 90-degree fittings, in my opinion. If you have a powerful pump such as an MCP655 and are only cooling a CPU for example, 90-degree fittings should be fine as the pump will provide more than enough flow to be able to overcome the restriction placed by the fittings.

Just use 45 degree fittings. Anti kink coil from primochill are crap. The only reason I got them is for contrast in my loop
Tj07 with 45 degree fittings

fist loop no 45s at all.

You have to use compression fittings for 7/16 tubing(what i am using). It is 1/2 barbs with 7/16 tubing you dont have to use clamps for. Only do this if you are comfortable in doing so
