Advice wanted on OC'ing an AMD Athlon II Regor 240

Thread Starter
Hello,

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I am new to the boards and couldn't find what I was looking for by searching. I just built my first computer, and am experimenting with hardware and overclocking. My father wants me to build him a sweet video editing machine, so I am learning on my own stuff, before I go build his mammoth machine.

I've read a lot about OverClocking, but until I can actually see some stats for my specific setup, I'm afraid it's not going to make sense. I understand the math multipliers, but again, would like someone to point out the specifics of my set up.

I want to overclock my AMD Athlon II Regor 240 (AM3). It's listed at 2.8 GHz, and I'd like to take it up to 3.3 GHz (or whatever you experts think is suitable).

Here are my specs:
mobo:
MSI 785GT-E63 AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 785G HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130266

Heatsync:
COOLER MASTER DK9-7E52A-0L-GP CPU Cooler
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835103087

Ram:
OCZ - 1066MHz - 4x1GB stick (4GB total)

HDD:
500GB Seagate SATA 3GB/s

I know someone will probably ask me for my CPU-Z screenshots, so as soon as I get home, I am going to download the software and post those (I just learned about CPU-Z in a post I read on this forum today).

Thanks to anyone that can help, and if this thread needs to be moved or deleted, can I get a link to which thread already covers this?

thanks Saint. I'll post everything later tonight.

my mobo has an easy overclock switch. Do you suggest using those?

I don't trust a lot in those "easy" overclock, usually add more voltage to the CPU that your really need.

I had a AMD x2 240. The settings I had on it was something like 250MHz on the FSB and that puts it at 3.5GHz (did it no problem without voltage bump). I put the RAM at 800MHz so it runs at 1000MHz and that let me tighten up the timings. I have had that chip in 3 boards with the same settings with no problems. Every system is different but I bet you can hit 3.5 easy.
