i7 2600k stock problems?

I just installed my 2600K, stock cooler @ 3.4Ghz

The first weird thing: http://i56.tinypic.com/29mx5c7.jpg (Core Speed)

When I start Prime 95, it goes upto 95C and Core 2/3 show "LOG" or "HOT" on real temp.

I think you have a bad mount on the heatsink. Is this the stock one they send with it? Try pulling the heatsink, clean, reapply tim and test again.

Yeah it's the stock cooler.

What about the low Mhz on CPU-Z ?

That's a power saving feature.

So, basically I did something wrong with the heatsink?

Hmmm, I was pretty sure I mounted it right. I don't have any tim left....I just had the tim that was on the cooler

Find some of the highest percentage alcohol you can to clean off old tim, run down to radio shack/best buy buy some new, or if you can wait a few days order online and reseat.

It's ~33C when internet browsing/youtube/Winamp

If I'm on the UEFI, it's 60C+ though Oo

Yea it downclocks itself, so it probably doesn't get that hot but your load temps are screwed.

Soon as it has to do work and kick the clock up the temperature shoots up so you go from ambient idles/low load to high temps.

So, it's running @ 3.4 Ghz at the UEFI and that's why it's 60C?

Also, wouldn't it be best to disable the power saving feature? I'm pretty sure my i5 760 setup was 4Ghz 24/7

The uefi might put more load on it somehow it's still quite buggy I'm sure as it's a new thing it's probably intended tho.

Honestly I'm not sure you can, as of right now the only motherboard I know with a regular multiplier is the ud7 i don't know if gigabyte figured out a way around the turbo multiplier or what.

Honestly it doesn't really matter as applications will use what they will and it will clock accordingly, you really don't want to be clocked at 4.5ghz pulling 200~ watts or whatever it pulls constantly from the wall all day all night when you could be pulling that when you need it. Lots of overclockings turn on the power saving features after they find a stable overclock.
