my cpu bottleneck this card....?

Thread Starter
hey everyone i just recently ordered a evga 580 overclocked and i should have it in my computer within the next 5-7 days. here are my specs for this computer..
AMD Phenom II 1055T Six Core Processor 2.80ghz
-ASUS M4A88T-M Motherboard
-evga gtx 285 oc edition video card
-4gb ddr3 memory
-windows 7 64 bit os
-cool master haf case with 3 fans
-corsair 750w power supply with 80 plus
-22 inch benq led monitor

my only confusion is when i install the card into my system will m cpu bottleneck the card? i understand i have 6 core at 2.80ghz but how can i tell my computer is bottlenecking with the new video card?

basically what i am saying is if i dont overclock my cpu (which i have been considering) will my computer lag with new video card

Correct me if I'm wrong but the way to tell if you're being bottlenecked is simply a matter of limited FPS in games. I wouldn't think a Thuban would bottleneck anything. If for some crazy reason it did a small overclock on it would fix any bottlenecking.

If you had an old Athlon dual-core I might worry about a bottleneck, but not with a Thuban.

Overclock the Thuban to 3.4 or 3.6 with a small voltage boost, that would be plenty for gaming if that is what you are doing.

What do you use your system for? If gaming, what games?

i use my system for high end gaming and my bro burns huge programs and dvds.
but since i got this custom made from a friend who was a technician at tiger direct i pretty much told him this is what i do so ill let you make the best choices.

but yeah mainly its for high end gaming..i just got a cool master v6 cpu cooler to in case i do over clock but with a ASUS M4A88T-M Motherboard i am not too sure how high i can go with the right voltage and so forth..

tips would be great..

thanks.

I doubt your chip has an unlocked cpu multiplier... if I am correct, you will have to overclock via front side bus. Try bumping up your FSB by 5mhz at a time, testing in prime95 as you go, until you reach 3600mhz.

Test prime95 for about 30min each time in a blend test. Once it crashes increase your vcore slightly until it is stable for 30min in 95 again, then increase your fsb again.

Like I said you really wont need more than 3600mhz for gaming. Try my ideas above. If you arent satisfied with that overclock then let us know and we may be able to help you push it further.

Any questions about overclocking in general, check out my overclock guide in my signature. Hope this helps.

Just put the FSB at 250 so its at 3500 MHz, CPU voltage at 1.34

2 notches up on NB voltage and your done

Oh yeah I did neglect to tell you that increasing the fsb will increase your ram and cpu-nb. You will need to drop your ram ratio to keep it under your stock speed and increase your cpu-nb voltage to maintain stability.

Jumping to 250 fsb in one jump may cause instability, but you can try it if you want....Snowman1989 does own a 1055t and I dont so it may be sound advice. Just remember, keep your ram under stock speed or you will become unstable. Also, you will need to bump your cpu-nb voltage to 1.25-1.35 for stability, but dont go any higher than 1.40v.
