EVGA 780i SLI question

Thread Starter
My EVGA 780i NF78-A1 board is capable of SLI.

The slots go like this:

SLOT 1: PCIE_1
SLOT 2: PCIE_3
SLOT 3: PCIE_2

I tried putting my cards in SLI by using slots 1 and 2, in other words PCIE_1 and PCIE_3 but when I boot up, it tells me to use PCIE_1 and PCIE_2 and not PCIE_1 and 3.

Problem is, my SLI bridge is only long enough for 2 slots side by side.

And funny thing is, I thought SLI would work that way instead of skipping a whole slot, in effect using SLOTS 1 and 3 respectively.

Do you think it will let me use PCIE_3 and PCIE_2 for SLI?

Or am I sheet out of luck, and need a longer SLI bridge?

Looking for those who have the board that can tell me whether or not it will work.

I have the evga 780i mobo w/ SLI'd gtx260's

I have them in slot 1 and slot 3 in your diagram and the 2-card sli bridge that came with my mobo is spaced apart for slots 1 and slot3.

thanks aawa, problem is, I bought this motherboard used and it didn't come with an SLI bridge

So now my problem is trying to get an SLI bridge long enough for it.

You can probably find them online fro about $10-$15 for the sli bridge. Heck if you post in the wanted section a member of OCN might have an extra laying around.

Did the mobo come with the tri sli bridge by chance? If it did you can use the tri sli bridge even though you only have two vid cards. Just keep the vid cards in slot 1 and slot 3

Pretty sure it needs to be at least in PCI-E 1

yeah, so PCIE_3 and PCIE_2 won't work because it needs to be a least in PCIE_1

you don't "have" to have the bridge to run sli.. i ran sli on 2 GTX 260's for a week on my P55 with no bridge and cards both running in x8/x8 and i only gained 1k vantage points by adding the bridge later when i got home to it.
