The future of LGA 1366 - Page 2

Only one more chip is likely coming out for 1366. Doesn't mean that the line is dead, though. Not at all.

(off-topic: Hey tconroy, I always wonder what your avatar is a picture of. Care to kill my curiosity? )

Thanks for posting guys..

i think intel is going to phase it over the next couple of quarters
edit: you have a silver arrow and a 930 and no oc???? :S
I just bought the SA recently and I'm in the process of overclocking.. (I've reached 3.0 GHz so far so I guess it's not "stock" any more!)

Yeah, but what about the people who don't like to upgrade the entire motherboard every year..like me?

Quote:
There won't be any new chips for LGA 1366 except for the i7 990x sometime this year.
Quote:
Sadly, Intel made it have a short life time. So you wont see much more than 1-2 new CPUs for this socket
That's frustrating

Quote:
by years end it will come to EOL most likely.
Quote:
The future means getting a cheap 6 core, 12 thread 32nm CPU while still having more PCI-E lanes, triple channel, and better motherboards than 1155. Eventually the i7 970 should become somewhat affordable hopefully.

i still personaly think thtat it is a boss socket and will continue to be seen and used for a long time to come
Agreed.

The comment to which you are replying here was very clearly sarcastic .

I'll likely skip SA/IA and wait until the next big jump, Haswell, comes out in 2013. But I think 1366 is still more than enough for most people. We'll see how it holds up in the next 2-3 years, I think it'll do just fine.
