OC CPU but not RAM

Thread Starter
Hi everyone,

I am going to be overclocking a really basic 478 and 775 CPU to see what the max clock speed I can get out of it is, I won't be playing games etc on it I just need it to be able to get to Windows and post up the CPU-Z validation etc.

Am I ok to keep the original clock speed etc stock for the RAM and just OC the CPU? I think the first spare Mobo I have uses DDR333?

Just need a stear on this as this is going to be a cheap project lol

Well you won't be doing any of that without an unlocked CPU which are only going to be the Extreme Editions of those CPU's. Otherwise you'll have to clock up the bus speeds. A good board will give you a few options to run RAM dividers to bring the memory down, but it really depends on what hardware you're using exactly.

lga 775 is a fsb overclock so lower ram multipler so speed is below stock. Start increasing fsb and once the comp wont boot increase vcore as needed. Since you are fsb overclocking stuff like your nb will be increasing as well and will prob need voltage bumps at some point.

Ok cool, im ok with extra Vcore boosts as I will be running phase change cooling, so heat is no issue, just need to find out what needs to be done to allow for the RAM is not explode

Really not liking how Intel set their multipliers unlike AMD lol

Also if its DDR333 is that the max FSB it can take?

Sorry about the random RAM questions, never really done much with RAM, still trying to get my head around timings etc and what they can take and what they can't
