Here's a chart of maximum possible clockspeeds for Sandy Bridge (keeping 100 BCLK).

Code:
CPU Stock Turbo | OC + Turbo (P67 only)
                    4c   3c   2c   1c   |    4c   3c   2c   1c
                                        |
i5-2300    2.8      2.9  3.0  3.0  3.1  |    3.3  3.4  3.4  3.5
                                        |
i5-2400    3.1      3.2  3.3  3.3  3.4  |    3.6  3.7  3.7  3.8
                                        |
i5-2500    3.3      3.4  3.5  3.6  3.7  |    3.8  3.9  4.0  4.1
                                        |
i5-2500K   3.3      3.4  3.5  3.6  3.7  |    5.7  5.7  5.7  5.7
                                        |
i7-2600    3.4      3.5  3.6  3.7  3.8  |    3.9  4.0  4.1  4.2
                                        |
i7-2600K   3.4      3.5  3.6  3.7  3.8  |    5.7  5.7  5.7  5.7
Probably the most relevant numbers from the above chart are the 3-core or 2-core Turbo+OC. Most apps can utilize 2 cores plus there's also load from background apps so I don't expect you'll see your CPU reaching max single-core Turbo often.

To answer this question: Yes, yes it is.

$20 is nothing really, and you are potentially unlocking a load more performance. Even if you are not going to OC it right now, you may well want to down the road (you know you will). At that point it is worth the little extra up front. Plus, from a resale point of view, I would guess that the "k" series will hold their value a bit better.

Sorry for the dumb question format.

Don't worry about it, anyway your question was answered:

Overclocking >= 4Ghz, get the 2500k or 2600k

"Overclocking" <= 4Ghz, the 2500 or 2600.
