Looking for advice on my first build - hoping to hit 4Ghz on a 1090t - Page 2

1333 CL7 only equals or is slightly slower than 1600 CL9 in most benchmarks. This is due to poor performance scaling below 1600Mhz. The lower latency may help in some situations such as gaming.

I find Gigabyte > MSI in board quality & reliability, especially in providing CPU power.

I know this is the AMD forum but...why not a Sandy Bridge combo? I think your getting more bang for your buck with that and it would be very comparable in price with the 1090.

Here is some combos on this page. Mix and match with a monitor/GPU/or other components that certain combos are missing and you should be setup. I came out to $1300 meeting all your component requirements.

IMO 8 gbs is overkill for RAM. 4Gb is plenty for most users. You can save 50 bucks there. Also, if you're considering going Xfire later I hear the 6870 is supposed to be the most bang for buck in Xfire of the Mid-high level cards.

^^ he said he does PHOTO EDITING , for that the extra ram is useful, plus I does help in some games or say you have a lot of windows open....

since you overclocking why not go with the crosshair IV only $4 than the msi board....
ps: it's beautiful, but if you don't want to ,
go with xd's build the ssd for os would be great,
I didn't look at the size but you may fit photoshop onto it, to make it load faster, I have ps and it only take ~20secs to load (that's not a lot) but i think that with an ssd it should take less....

I used to work on microprocessor design @ Sun Microsystems, and a ton of my buddies from there are now working on CPUs @ AMD. So I've decided to only stick with AMD. Not the most logical reason, but I'm cool with it.

I use photoshop elements right now and it takes forever to come up. Granted, I'm coming from an old AthlonXP 3000+ system with 1.5Gigs of ram, so anything I build will seem like lightning in comparison.

I do plan on doing more video editing with it though. I have 2+ years of videos of my kids that I need to master into DVDs, which I've been putting off since it's such a pain on the old system.

any 1080p screen will be nice, for that extra bit of speed you could get a 6870, few extra cores and a bit higher clocks, only if you want, since it's about $40 more, in uk the 6870 costs £183, ~$290 , cuz of VAT, but yeah.....

I'd go with 8 gigs, the 1090T,hmm....

yeah, get the home premium, you don't need the pro

why not go with some cheaper(like) ram ?? 4x2 or 2x2x2 ? it's cheaper by like $15
$15 may not seem a lot but save it on like 5 parts and you have ~$80

about the case , I know it's just preference but you can some times save on that too...
I'm not telling you to make a cardboard box case, thou.

burning dvds, hehe, you can get another dvd drive

I am going with the general opinion & will get Win7 Home Premium.
I am planning on getting the 1333 cl7 ram I mentioned yesterday as a substitute for the 1600 cl9.
I am replacing the original monitor with the ViewSonic VA2431WM (thanks for the buy.com advice!)
Going to go with the CMPSU-750TX corsair (to future-proof in case I go crossfire someday)
Going with the ARCTIC COOLING MX-2 Thermal Compound instead of the arctic silver.
Switching to the Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD5 to get the combo deal with the cpu (thanks!)
Sticking with the graphics + case + 212+ + extra 212+ fan.
Going with 3 of those samsung HD's, assuming I can get the $15 off of all three @ newegg. 1 for boot drive, 2 to be raid1'd for data I don't want to lose.

I want to stick with 4x2 for the memory, so I can add 2 more at a later date if I need/want to go to 16G.

I like that case, no real reason for it I guess, but it appeals to me. I will disconnect that LED on the front fan though.

I think I'm going to pass on SSD for now. I'd feel weird having less than 100G for a boot drive.

Now I'm checking prices/shipping to decide what to buy where: newegg vs. buy.com vs. amazon. Tiring.

Thanks for all the help - I'm feeling better about this build now.

kk, sounds good to me,
I know about cases, different people like different stuff

Same way I feel about ssd's, you could aswell get 3 F3 in raid, with about 1.5tb for that price, but you'd need a backup one so +1 = 4, or as someone said "2+2=3 if you define 3 as a result of 2+2 " (someone's sig, something like that btw)

yes, I know it makes you feel so much better, I posed before to about my build.....which is still in progress, have to get some money, I suck at saving up. . hope it goes well

Well I did it - I placed my orders at newegg/amazon/buy.com. It all came out to $1408.76 - not too bad, and right at my loosely-set budget of $1400.

Now I just wait for everything to roll in & try to get it all together and stable. Next weekend should be pretty busy for me. I'll post back with my results & hopefully you won't see any posts about problems I'm having setting things up.

Now I just hope I don't have to rma anything (and that my wife doesn't kill me)!
