Ati Radeon HD 5870 triple monitor setup problem...

Alright, well hello and let me say i am new to these forums!

Now then onto the problem.. Well i have used dual monitors for over 2 years now and recently i felt like upgrading to 3. I researched a bit and bought myself a Radeon HD 5870 graphics card. After countless problems and some solutions, and 340$ spent.... i am still not at my destination.

I have two monitors, 1440 x 900, 1280 x 1024, and one lcd tv 1360 x 768. I wish to set them all up at once, span view or multi desktop. I hear eyefinity will only allow span, which is no problem because i have another monitor about the same resolution as the others.

Now, i have an Active DisplayPort to Single Link DVI Adapter, and an HDMI cord with a VGA, DVI, and VGA to DVI cord. I also have a DVI to VGA connector. I am also running Windows XP SP2 x32.

I have tried countless arrangements and none seem to have worked, so i feel completely useless and im at the will of anyone who knows what i can do. So now, I ask of you all, what shall i do? What have i done wrong? What is next?

Thanks~

Hello
Welcome (though i'm new as well)
I do have a working eye infinity setup.

Here is an pdf to cover anything you have missed

http://www.amd.com/us/Documents/Setup_Guides.pdf

If i'm reading your post right you are using both dvi and the dp with adapter, so your fine there.

Found the answer if it not above already, each monitor in an Eyefinity group must display the same resolution - and they will default to the lowest common denominator. Two displays at 1680x1050 and one display at 1920x1200 will all display a 1680x1050 image - stretching that image across the 1920x1200 display. If you utilize different aspect rations (i.e., 2x 1920x1080 and 1x 1920x1200), the image on the "odd display" will either be letterboxed or stretched.

Best of luck,
if that does not help, when your try to create your group of displays at what point does it fail and what happens

What do you mean by "I have tried countless arrangements and none seem to have worked"?

What problems are you experiencing?

(Does Eyefinity work with XP?)

BadAssClocker

The three monitors are all recognized by my computer, but under the CCC, it will only allow me to set up 2 at once, and then SWAP either of them with the 3rd.

alias 86

I am fully aware of this, as i have tried setting all resolutions to 800 x 600, and i have had no luck, i simply want to know i am able to do this, no matter what the resolution.

CovertCover

I meant that i tried using the adapters in different ways, and also used different monitors for each adapter. I swapped around the DVI to VGA with the normal DVI cord etc.

I suppose that my card does not support 3 monitors with XP as the OS, so i will take my other computer WITH windoes 7 and see if that has any better results...

Hmmmm, I think (and I have known to been wrong sometimes) that it might be a limitation of XP.

As for that, I read that all 3 monitors are recognized, yet only 2 are usable, correct? And you tried switching which adapters (DVI, VGA, DP) are all hooked up, so we know that's not the problem.

I think it honestly just might be the fact that XP is outdated, and can't natively support all 3 monitors.

well thats interesting i know for a fact that the 5870 supports triple monitors so i am pretty sure you can rule out hardware, what version of ccc are you running; and i think i am in agreeance with covertcover that it might simply be that xp cant support 3 monitors; mabey its time for an upgrade
