Upgrading my Signature Rig..

Thread Starter
I've decided I want to add an SSD HD to my rig..

So, while I'm at it, should i upgrade anything else?

My system is only used for gaming and everyday net use etc, but i am a speed freak and like things instant / lightning fast.

I have been out the loop since i bought this new rig 1.5 yrs ago when the i7's first came out, so if anyone can tell me what's changed in the processor world that would be much appreciated.

Thanks guys!

Your CPU's still good and while Sandy's all the rage right now, it's not really worth upgrading to given your current system. For you, the SSD (maybe one of those RevoDrive PCIe ones) is bound to be the best choice. If your GPU's feeling not up to snuff, that's another thing you can upgrade.

is 6gb of RAM still sufficient?

seems like everyone with a new build is dropping in 8-12..

That's mostly because of RAM prices. Nowadays, you can get 8GB (2x4GB) kits for $80 and 12GB (3x4GB) kits for $120.

You still have a very viable build, IMO. 6GB should be enough for most situations (unless you use a specialized application that can really take advantage of/needs more RAM). An SSD seems like the best options for you if you really want to upgrade. Everything else seems very solid, and as said above, a new GPU might be nice if you have extra funds (though, again, your GPU is still very viable).
