Asus 9600gt

Thread Starter
Hi

I have this card and I cannot get a stable overclock on it. I am pretty new to o/c ing and have been using evga tuner to change settings and furmark to test stability. From I what I have seen, for example here:

http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/g...g94_unveiled/1

I should be able to reach these numbers 796/1006, but I cannot get anywhere near that. At best 670 and 920. Furmark has run higher numbers but as soon as I play a game (Batman Arkham Asylum), it locks up, there are 'artifacts' and I have to hard reboot? Temps seem fine, I have a 650 PSU and have tried both PCI-E power cables so my thats me out of ideas?

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks

Will

I have the ASUS 'Black Pearl' edition of the 9600GT in SLI, and overclocking isn't really something the card does well. Overclocking is more of a newer generation GPU thing, and with the 9600GT, only small overclocks are what you'll achieve.

Try pushing a little further, and maybe try using RivaTuner to fine tune your overclock.

But how come I have seen other users that have seen some pretty decent overclocks from the card?

But its not anything im missing? You overclock, using a software, test for stability, if its stable, it whould work in games yes?

Thanks

Yes, that is how the overclocking works. On graphics cards such as the 9600GT it isn't as easy as with today's mid and high class graphics cards.

Have you done your overclocking in RivaTuner? For me that is by far the best GPU OC'ing program out there, and should probably allow you to get where you want speedwise. Remember to raise clock speed, shader speed, and memory equally.

Good luck.

I'll have to respectfully disagree. Check my sig, this card can really OC with decent aftermarket cooling. Even with stock, it can get decent clocks. I'm not sure how well the nVidia OC program works, but I'd give RivaTuner a spin. How are your case temps? My guess is the card's overheating.
EDIT: Just reread OP and saw temps are fine. I'm at a loss. Granted all cards don't OC the same, but I'd think you'd be able to push a bit more than that.

A 20% OC is nice, well done. Were you using an ASUS? Or some other brand? And I doubt he's overheating, artifacts and lock-ups generally just mean instability issues.

Thanks man. It was an XFX board, but a reference design. OP, is your card identical to the one in the review? And yeah good point. Hmm Idk.
