Ok I think i've figured it out. Everything is at stock at the moment, cpu multiplier, ram speed, nb speed and im slowly increasing fsb. With regards to the voltage, the value I can change is a 'cpu offset voltage' and after restarting with basic settings, the default was lower (1.38) and then increased the +offset to get it to 1.5-1.55?

Sound right so far?

here is a picture of my bois screen. I've given up for the moment as the voltage settings seem stupid unless im missing something. Everything is as low as it can be but as far as I can work out, its trying give me a cpu voltage of 2.08!!? The first offset step is 0.7? I dont get it?

Your Bios picture makes it very clear. The "CPU voltage" is the setting you need to change. The 1.38 in gray on the left is just a reference point for the recommended voltage. the .7 is the lowest you can power your processor by that setting. Take it up to 1.5 and you will achieve what we have been trying to do.

To post the image inline, go to your image and right click on it in photo bucket and do a "copy image link" then click the image button next to the link button in your reply post and paste. It will be posted like so:

Right o. Sorted. Sorry but I have another problem. I dont really want to go above 1.52 V. Just a personal preference for the moment, I think that will do. With everything at its lowest, Prime 95 is ok and temps at 100% load are 32/33 degrees C. I then put the cpu multiplier up to 15x with those settings and it crashed as soon as prime 95 started. Increase the voltage a bit but still crashing. What do I do know? Keep reducing the FSB until it is stable whilst maintaing 1.52V?

Also this clocks are with my existing RAM settings. I tried changing the time back to standard and the system wouldnt post. Dont know why.

Thanks for your help on this.

Can you get into the system and post a few CPU-z screens where it is stable.
I can make better recommendations based on that. Namely the CPU and Memory tabs. If you don't have it you can get it here CPU-Z

Remember, once you find you maximum stable fsb, you cannot just turn the multiplier up to 15 and expect it to be stable. You have to work up stable testing. Its a pain and it takes a little time, but its worth not having random crashes that corrupt the hardrive and render the computer useless until a reinstall of the OS.

Here ya go.

I was going to ask that actually. How much damage am I doing but all these random crashes? Surely they have to happen before a stable overclock can be achieved.

Thanks

Your shouldn't encounter too much damage during these overclock attempts, espessially if this is a new build. Its the day in and day out of running a system with unstable clocks that can cause data corruption, because though it may function the NB may act strange at some points, causing CRC errors while intalling programs or doing anything from the SATA Drives.

Dont Worry though you are going to find a stabil setting and not go down that road.

OK, I see your problem. Bring your FSB down. Currently it is set at 258.9 When you go to raise the multiplier to 15X Your sitting at 3.88 GHZ, and I not yet seen a Propus chip validation at that High.

Bring your FSB down to 220 with the Multiplier at 15x. That will get you 3.3Ghz. Stress test for 10 min. If it passes -Procced:If it fails, move voltage up to 1.5.

Raise FSB to 226- thats 3390 which will show up as 3.4 most likely - test an if pass go up anther 6MHZ on the fsb.

Go ahead and bring your NB FSB up to ~2000, and your HT to ~2000. Your not going to gain any stability by testing your max OC with those two settings as low as they are.

This says your voltage is 3.728. If that where true, I am pretty sure the chip would have shot out of the side of your computer with a huge bolt of lightning following it. Reset all your Bios settings to factory default and shoot those two screens again, just so we can rule out any bad sensors.

Yea I noticed that. But...using PC probe it gives me the right value. OCCT monitors are a bit funny too.

Update the bios maybe?
