STILL Low SLi GPU usage with 266.58

Long time lurker, first time posting. But I've lost all hope in Nvidia and there ability to release proper drivers. I've read a number of posts here and elsewhere of people getting low GPU usage with SLi. Is there any way to remedy this problem? Because the problem, SILL persists with the newest 266.58 drivers.

Black Ops(multiplayer) at a steady %20-%25 usage.

Bad Company 2 at a steady %25-%30 usage.

Metro 2033 at a steady %50 usage.

Heaven benchmark DX10. Highest usage I've seen at about %70'ish.

At first I thought it was the games, but EVERY game I try running I get a low usage. Then I thought I was bottle necking, but there now way, I'm running a quad core, and that the usage fluctuates between applications. If I was bottle necking, I'd get the same usage on every application(?).

Something is definitely wrong there. I never had that low of usage when I had my 260's. Are the drivers properly installed? Have you tried running fumark for multi gpus to see if it would max them out? It did for me. Good luck!

What would you suggest the clock be at? I ran it at 3.5 for awhile, didn't do much. Anything higher would be out of the question, air cooled.

Bottleneck, gaming at that resolution and being your cpu is only at 3.0 ghz, do you have a 1080p monitor/tv you can try? Maybe increase your clocks again to see if anything has changed, Vsync on?

Edit, SLI ribbon connected right? Maybe try reseating them, does GPUZ say the PCIE bandwidth is x16 or x8

Sometimes in BIOS there is a power limit to which it will allow togo through the PCIE slot, not the power connectors, but the actual PCIE slot, i know if i have mine set to 25 watts, performance is halved

Has this 'poor GPU usage in SLI' been with you all the time since you got the GTX260s and with the driver back in those days? I mean, have you ever seen good usage under SLI with your setup?

OR, you have seen high usage before but the usage just becomes poor with recent drivers?

Anyway, try these 2 tests:
1. Disable the SLI and rerun those few games with only one GTX260. Assuming SLI gives 100% scaling for the sake of simplicity, using a single card should double its usage. Check this.

2. Q9550's default speed is 2.83GHz and I see that you have a small overclock at 3.0GHz. Frankly, I am not yet discarding the notion of CPU bottlenecking. So, do a simple CPU scaling test: run a few game demo benchmarks at 2.83, 3.0, 3.2 and, say, 3.4GHz and see if the usage/framerate goes up linearly.

BenchmarkExtreme has done an extensive CPU Bottleneck and SLI Scaling test on the GTX285. (Even though your GTX260 216 is weaker than the GTX285, they are not that far apart.)
Their conclusion is that for GTX285 SLI to work good at 1680x1050, an i7 920 at 3.8GHz is a minimum. So, your Q9550 at 3.0GHz is possibly not keeping up with your GTX260 216 SLI?

(Your Q9550 at 3.0GHz performs probably like an i7 920 at 2.7-2.8 GHz?

Just for heck of it I ran Black Ops(multiplayer) in 800x600, and my usages got even lower.

GPUz Reads:
Card 1: PCI-E 2.0 x16 @ x16 2.0
Card 2: PCI-E x16 @ x16 2.0

I'll check my Bios for anything weird right now.

I've only really noticed this issues until updating with the 200+ nvidia driver set.

1. Disabled SLi and played a little Black Ops, usage was better, but still low, about %35-%40. As oppose to both cards being %20 with SLi enabled.

2. My gradually increased my clock and the usage for Black Ops stayed the same no mater if i was at 2.83 or 3.6(which as high I could stablely go with air). Just floated around %20-%25 usage.

I do apologize for using Black Ops and a basis for the benchmarks, but its mainly what I play the most at the moment.

Nope, you would NOT get the same usage on all applications if you were bottlenecking. You'd get lower GPU usage on games/test that are really easy to run graphically and/or have a high level of CPU dependency. This actually looks exactly like what would happen w/CPU bottleneck, at least on the surface of things. But that doesn't mean that has to be what it is, just that there's nothing about these results that says it can't be.

What settings are you running Heaven Bench and Metro? Try totally maxing it out, with AA and everything. Does your GPU usage look decent in this scenario? What FPS average do you get? In fact, try running all these things with the in-game settings absolutely maxed out, if you aren't already. And if you're running these games online, try the single player mode, see if anything changes.

Also, you aren't forcing v-sync in any of these tests are you, either in-game or via the NVCP? Cause using v-sync will cause this exact thing to happen.
