Sandy Update > time to order.

Thread Starter
I am updating to a Sandy after sitting through the 775 socket world for the last 3 years... Time to get current...

-i7 2600k
-Asus P8P67 Evo
Need help selecting a memory though...

Was leaning toward 8gb (2x4gb) but don't need the extra 4gb right away...
Should I look at a nice Cas7 with low timings and voltages or just get the 8gb now and settle for cas9 and average timing?

looking at the following ram:
-G.SKILL ECO Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7D-4GBECO Cas7 / 7-8-7-24-2N timing / 1.35v $75
-G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL Cas9 / 9-9-9-24-2N timing / 1.5v $110

Thanks for your thoughts.

I would recommend these..

If you're going to be gaming stick with 4 gbs

And I'm not sure about the eco ones... I just wouldn't trust them

My vote.

Mushkin RAM is insane and their customer support is amazing.
I would go with the 2x4GB sticks, adding more than 2 dimms is gonna put more stress on your IMC thus lower overclocks. Obviously the reason these aren't in stock is becasue SB just came out and everyone jumped on them.

Are you going to be gaming? If so, then go with the 2500k and save $100 and get a better GPU/PSU

I second the ripjaws also

Primarily gaming, some 3d modeling. Sticking with the 2600k for that reason...
GPU update is not too far off.

This is an interesting read: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/mem...sandy-bridge/1

If you are just looking at 4GB of RAM go for the fastest speed you can find. The timings are secondary when it comes to performance with the new Intel platforms.

Sold out, but quite fast. Although tighter timings at a lower speed would be very similar in performance.

Realistically you will be hard pressed to see a difference between 1600 /1866 and 2133.

So does cas timing really matter? Might as we pick up the 8gb kit now since four sticks will just stress the memory controller.

I am going to order tonight after work....
