Should I get a second gtx 470 - or just sit tight and wait for Kelper this year? - Page 2

Won't it be backwards compatible much like 2.0 was with 1.0?

I can't see myself dropping a lot on a 2011 chip/board because all they're offering is x6/x8 Sandy Bridge chips neither of which offer me any sort of real life gaming improvement.

Meh, down with Intel.

Something better is ALWAYS coming out in 6 - 12 months. If you go by the "just wait" mentality, you'll never buy anything.

With that said, I think a better monitor should be in your future. Not that Asus monitors are bad or anything, it's just that they're 60Hz refresh rate. Which means, no matter what Afterburner is saying that your FPS is, you're really not getting any more than 60.
Although, in Valve games, it does seem to make a difference. Go figure.

Regardless, a 120Hz monitor would be a more worthwhile upgrade IMO. Also, a larger monitor would be better as well.
Then get kelper.

At 1080p, it would certainly help performance (moreso with a higher resolution). So it wouldn't necessarily be a bad upgrade. Just keep in mind that the current Asus cards don't clock that well.

GTX 5xx series are a big leap compared to what ? They're about 20% faster than the 4xx series, since when is that big ?

Personally I'm going to wait until Maxwell. I might add another GTX 470 in about 18 months (if necessary) but I'm waiting for at least a 100% improvement over my OC'ed 470 before moving on.

Just to throw this out there ... two 470's at 910/2000 are going to come VERY close to stock 580's in SLI. Considering that the evga 465 oc cards that are coming from newegg right now seem to be consistently unlocking and going for like $165, you grab one of those + block you're looking at nearly matching a $1000 setup ... for not a lot of extra scrill.

I'm pretty frickin happy w/my unlocked 465 GE SLi setup, I gotta say. It's hella tight, esp. for what I paid for it ... even w/prices what they are now I don't feel ripped

Yeah, my gtx 470 was $185 on black friday, been waiting for awhile for the prices to come back down..

Nothing urgent, perhaps I should keep an eye out on the for sale section...

Is there any indication of Keplers speed? All I've seen is performance per watt figures.
