I've seen this happen too. I've gotten into the habit of saving needed files on external drives, and drivers in dated folders from the day I grabbed the files. Windows built in system backup works well enough for me. I get everything installed/configured/updated, then run a system backup. Comes in very handy when I'm shuffling SSD's through RAID0 arrays. My main box is currently on 3 64GB Sandforce SSD's, used to be on 4 of them, but I put one in the i3 540. My 2600k is using 2 OCZ Vertex 60GB's currently but will eventually change to 2 of the Sandforce drives. I've repurposed drives like crazy, and haven't had Windows System Restore let me down yet. It's definitely worth the price of admission

For some reason on full load the cpu gets the voltage it needs, on half load or quarter load it doesnt and the system crashes. any ideas? one workaround that i am using is keeping the f@h client active, but this isnt practical.
You could try toggling LLC and see if that's the problem.

Not sure what you are running, but here's the settings:

LLC ON: CPU Vcore mode: FIXED Voltage, CPU Loadline: DISABLED
LLC OFF: CPU Vcore mode: Offset Voltage, CPU Loadline: ENABLED

Judging from your description it sounds like you have LLC off. When I have LLC on, the CPU idles at 1.3568V and on load it gets to 1.404V. When I have LLC off, CPU idles at 0.90V (!) and on load still gets to 1.404V.

Worth a shot anyway.

Kaze fan arrived today. Home on dinner break. Holy crap that Ultra Kaze fan sure sounds like it moves 133.60 CFM. Loud is an understatement. I can hear it over my Antec 900 which is not quiet either. But I didn't pick up this fan because it was quiet - I wanted something that could shove air like an angry mofo.

Small FFT's ran for 20 minutes-@4.4ghz(offset +0.30, LLC enabled), max temps are 56/63/62/64. Last night I ran OCCT for over an hour on Infinite/Large Data Set/High/HT enabled and found the machine would BSOD after about 20 minutes. So I bumped the voltage up by .10 and then it was stable for over an hour.

Temps dropped by about 10 degrees. Unfortunately the screws for the GeminiiS don't reach through the thicker Scythe fan. I've gone the Macgyver route and used some twist ties on all four corners through the screw holes to hold it in place. Patience is a virtue I do not possess.

Hmm after some testing I found that any clock perfoms better in 3dmark with fixed ratio as opposed to turbo on my setup. Something that controls the turbo inside my CPU (or mobo?) is screwed I think, as no one else has this problem but me. I officially tried every BIOS setting available (on 3 different BIOSes) to help counter this issue but nothing worked. Guess I'm forced to idle at 39c, it's not too bad at least my chip can do 5ghz 24/7

I wish I could understand what is going on tho... I'm assuming its a malfunction in the turbo controller cuz literally no one on the interwebs has this problem... or maybe they do they just dont know it. It's not noticeable per say, only in benchmarks so if there IS a widespread problem it's possible people just have not found out yet. Maybe you guys can test this for me. 9.2% performance loss in 3dmark11 when I use turbo, gpu score is 5300 with turbo OC (5ghz) and 5900 with fixed multi OC (5ghz). It's wierd cuz the physx score is not affected at all, it's almost as if when the video card is working really hard the cpu stays at 1.6ghz, ignores pci express activity. I'm hoping it's an issue with the mobo, no way I'm RMA'ing this chip, even if the turbo is screwed

Interesting. I can't get prime blend stable when using offset vcore & turbo. If I used fixed mode (LLC on) I can get prime blend to pass.

Did you try raising PCH like in the video in post #2 ?

I have never touched the PCH voltage, I know nothing about it

Besides PCH, my overclock is almost identical to the one in that video, even down to the vcore.

FWIW:

I did some playing around tonight and found that my setup runs all benchmarks faster with CPU Internal PLL override disabled and CPU PLL @ 1.700. I have a crappy GPU and don't ever run 3dmark, but everything else is much faster. I'd try disabling it if you can and see if that makes a difference. I have all the speedstep and turbo features enabled, and using offset mode with loadline enabled. I'm only running a 48x multi, so it looks like I can get away with not needing Internal PLL override.

Giving that a shot now. Damn this fan is loud. Speedfan beta doesn't seem to work.

Taking the fan out, going back to 4.3ghz. It's just too damned loud. 4.3 is fine for now.
