I abandoned this motherboard. It was great but Newegg never got the b3 revisions so I just bought a different one and returned it. I didn't want to deal with Biostar RMA. It was great but right before i sent it it started crashing on my oc sometimes and not other times. Turned out the pwm went ... crispy? There was a smell of well, nasty and a black spot on the heat sink. To bad it died. I really enjoyed the board and thought it was a very high quality board with some great high end features at a mid range price. I cant wait to see if Biostar tries to take a stab at Asus and Gygabyte and produce some really great boards that a competitively priced. One thing I would like to see is a thicker PCB. And some nicer looking sinks. Other than that, Great board. Sucks I wont be able to help in this thread much from now on.

can you share with us which pwm/heatsink got toasted? the upper one (4 phases) or the one at the left of the cpu (6 phases)? xbitlabs also complained about the pwms heating up:

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/mainboards/display/biostar-tp67xe_5.html#sect0

i might have to reapply some thermal paste (if its not using thermal pads) and/or replace the pwm heatsinks.

thanks smile.gif

The sinks use pads but you could probably put some thermal paste. The one that heated up was the upper one, with the much smaller heatsink. The one right behing the io area is fine but the one above the cpu was as hot and that is the one the crapped out. I should have taken some pictures, crazy thing is that it all started with my OC becoming unstable and my memory oc unstable. When it crapped out i was playing AC2 for about an hour with only a 4ghz oc. I think adding a fan to the smaller one would work fine but perhaps a better sink would be the better choice. Good luck. My new GA-P67a-UD4-B3 will be getting either new pads or some AS5. I will also be adding some small fans. Do they cpme in 20mm sizes?

@donkru thanks, i'll check if my hr-09 type 3 would fit in there later, but it might interfere with the cpu heatsink frown.gif not sure bout 20mm fans, but there are a lot of 40mm fans out there though

the B3's stock bios is the 02/26 version, i still haven't overclocked since i'm still with the stock cooler. minimum dimm voltage is 1.3v at bios, my gskill snipers are rated for 1.25v biggrin.gif

also, are your second pci-e x16 slot's (the red one) locking mechanism different from the white one? mine have different locking mechanisms for some reason (not that it matters)

I found a 315 bios for my TH67+ on their tawian website, I think there was one for the TPXE also but both have been taken down. Loving the simple incredible stability of this Biostar MB, definately the most stable rig I have owned in the last 10 years, Ran Kombustor and LinX for 24 hrs without crash. Haven't had one BSOD, not one. I am a believer in Biostar quality, don't know about high end overclocking but I plan on trying the TP67XE when prices go down.
