P67 Motherboard Choice

Thread Starter
I have a ~$550 (give or take a few bucks) budget for Sandy Bridge. $330 of that is going towards a i7 2600K, leaving me with ~$200 for a motherboard. Which one should I get and why? If I go for a cheap ($~140) motherboard, I will be able to get a NH-D14 and use it in place of the 212+ I have now. I plan to overclock to around 4.6/7/8 maybe with the motherboard.

I do NOT plan to SLI or Crossfire, so only 1 PCIe 2.0 x16 slot is needed.

I'm thinking about multiple ones from 2 manufacturers.

Asus Sabertooth P67 ($220)
Gigabyte UD3 ($130)
Gigabyte UD4 ($190)
Asus P8P67 Vanilla ($155)
Asus P8P67 PRO ($185)

Thanks in advance. Oh, I rep accordingly, there's some incentive to post. :3

Personally, if I had to chose between those I'd either go UD4, or P8P67 Pro

But if you want to go all out go with the Sabertooth.

Or just wait till the next set of 1155 boards comes out.

All boards should take you to 4.6-4.8GHz, however the cheaper boards might have a larger vdrop and/or vdroop compared to the more expensive boards. Though I find the Sabertooth a pure marketing scheme in that you're paying the extra $40 over the Pro just for the plastic shielding. If you're going to spend that much, I would rather get the Deluxe.

Thanks a lot. I was actually leaning towards the UD4 myself. Black would look good in my case, and plus it has that 8x/8x support if I ever do decide to SLI or CrossFire. Sabertooth is definitely off my list due to the last thing you said.

I'd get a board with dual BIOS chips, all new Gigabytes have them... don't think the other boards you listed do.

gigabyte has had issues with there dual bios boards. not sure about the p67 but the p55 boards had serious issues. the infamous infinite reboot loop. beleived to be cause by a bad bios. i had to rma a ga-p55-usb3 3 times. absolutely rediculous. its a crying shame too, cuz gigabyte makes great boards.

i would hope that gigabyte fixed this problem on the p67 boards.

Not considering any MSI boards?

I'm using the P67-GD55 which is competitively priced for an SLI board (since you're considering that route now). So far so good.

Go with the UD4.

I've had some really bad experiences with MSI and their customer support in the past, which then I can safely say I will never buy from MSI again. Sorry.

And I am leaning way toward the UD4. That should be the best bang for the buck for me. I'll order the stuff tomorrow, thanks to every who posted, and +repped all.
