Will using several y adapters and splitters reduce sound quality?

Hi,

I just bought a monitor that has several input connectors so I want to take advantage of that and connect all of my game consoles to it. However, I do not want to use the monitor's built in speakers as the audio output so I would like to have the following topolgy:

Xbox 360:
Video output via HDMI and audio output via a/v(red, white) cable plugged into the line-in on my sound card.

PS3:
Video output via HDMI and audio output via a/v(red, white) cable plugged into the line-in on my sound card.

Wii:
Video output via component(red, green, blue) cable and audio output via a/v cable(red, white) plugged into the line-in on my sound card.

PS2:
Video output via a/v(yellow) cable and audio output via a/v(red, white) cable plugged into the line-in on my sound card.

As you can probably tell, I only have one line-in port on my sound card and would rather not have to switch out the appropriate cables every time I want to play a different console.

Knowing this, I plan on using the following cables and adapters to get around that problem:
  • 3.5mm Y adapter(1) plugged into line-in on sound card
  • 3.5mm Y adapter(2,3) plugged into 3.5mm Y adapter(1)[This now gives me four 3.5mm connectors]
  • 3.5mm to female RCA cable(1,2) plugged into 3.5mm Y adapter(2)
  • 3.5mm to female RCA cable(3,4) plugged into 3.5mm Y adapter(3)
  • All 4 console's male RCA cables plugged into the appropriate female RCA cables.

This method makes sense to me however the only thing I'm worried about is reduced quality due to all of the Y adapters and splitters. Should I be worried about this?

I should also note that I never plan on using more than one console at a time(I don't even know if that's possible) so only one sound source will be input into the sound card at any given time. I'm not sure if this point helps at all but I thought I would put that out there.

Thanks

theoretically, it will work if you set all your consoles' outputs to mono, because iirc most y splitters split up L/R stereo signals. but i think you will lose audio quality and there might even be a delay on the line in/out time of your sound card.

i started to recommend an audio switcher, but they can be pricey for the good ones. so on second thought, i'd say just get a decent speaker system with multiple inputs.

what kind of monitor do you have that has 2 hdmi, component and rca inputs?

Can you link me to a decent audio switcher?

Edit: Would this suffice?

yeah, i'd say the one you linked would work.

i found this for $10

either of those would probably work better than y-splitters.
