When double clicking nothing happens for seconds until a "click" sound occurs

Thread Starter
When I double click on an exe file to start a program or a folder to open it or just anything, often nothing happens for several seconds(blue circle is spinning, formerly hourglass in older Windows) until I hear a distinct click sound from the computer(from inside the case), then the action is carried out.

What's that, does anybody know this issue can something be done about it?

Thanks a lot.

PC: Signature rig.

On the SpinPoint HDDs. I have to observe if this happens with files on the SSD too.

I have a SSD boot-up and HDD storage and the HDD would do the same thing except for the nasty click (well at least i'm not hearing it), but I can't get it to do it now. Also the address bar would take a few seconds to fill up.

Now, I have a WD elements 2TB external that does the same thing every time (again the blue bar takes a few secs to load across the top and no click sound) on several different machines. Seems like it falls asleep after a short time of non use and takes a few seconds to wake up like my blue-tooth keyboard does.

Ok, just accessed my Seagate Barracuda (my 2nd drive storage) and I now notice the distinct single click, same as you now.

Maybe your HDD is set to Idle after X minutes in your power options?

In that case, lets say it sets itself to sleep after 20 minutes of inactivity, when you then want to use it after 20min, it has to start again, and this usually takes a couple of seconds.

Check your advanced power options.

hope it helps
