Nah, it doesn't matter Who could know, right?

Also, I'm not a fanboy, as I actually recommended him AMD, because it's good, and has an amazing price/performance ratio

Hmm... He isn't going to upgrade untill April 12, so maybe he should wait for Bulldozer?

Depends on his budget. If Sandy Bridge is too expensive Bulldozer will be too.

How much of a price difference is there between Sandy and the X6?

At least wait to see what it does to the market, yes. It could be too early to start planning when the 'whole world' could end up changing on you. Granted, having an educated direction never hurts, and let's be honest, planning out parts is down right fun!

Value is Subjective and in the eye of the beholder.

What do you need/want in a mobo?

Both will accomplish the job. but the EVO seem's to be a better bang for buck as both board's are relatively inexpensive.

my vote goes to the evo.

I advise the following:
Wait and get an AM3+ board, fit it with the AM3 Thuban and some nice DDR3. This way he has the opportunity to go to Bulldozer easily later on. You could also seriously consider going for the non Sandy Intels, the i5 760 is a great chip, clocks well and is noticeably cheaper than Sandy Bridge, the 1156 platform will also run the i7 8x0 chips.

AMD chipset is perfectly capable of running SLi, it just doesn't have the little BIOS flags that say that they paid the fee to Nvidia to allow it to work. All the hack does is fool the drivers into believing that the board is SLi certified. I look on it this way - If I've paid out the cash to Nvidia for a pair of SLi capable cards, I feel I already paid them enough to warrant putting them in SLi. Note also that Nvidia has not, to date, made ANY move to stamp out websites with the SLi hack.

Damn it! Well, the price difference is about $135-150$... But ofc., if he has enough money, I will strongly suggest him Sandy Bridge

Yeah, I plan out parts almost every day I am currently planning my own, which I will have the money for in February

Going to upgrade for about $1.300 I'm very excited!

OO, I would be too. Hit me up while you're planning so I can be sure to pop over and look at which way you go.

I go Sandy Bridge I have a thread up somewhere here, but I'm gonna make a new one, when my parts arrive With pics and everything!

My brother's not only going to upgrade his CPU, but alsp RAM and mobo...

Now, he's got two GTX 275, and will run them SLI - is there really need to upgrade that? I mean is it really worth upgrading from that to a GTX 470 for DX11?

He's not gonna have more than $500-$550 to upgrade with, and here prices are higher than the US.

It'll be $450 here for the 1055T, 750a SLI mobo and 4 Gb. CL9 1600 Mhz. RAM...

Would be difficult downgrading the CPU to X4, and go for a GTX 470, or even a GTX 460.

That would be obvious...

Now the problem is budget... And when it comes to budget gaming, AMD is the king. No effing doubt about it.

He has sort of fallen in love with the idea of a X6... I might be able to talk him into a X4...

Anything from 775 (AM3 [X4 and up], 1156 [Quad i5's], 1155 [k's], 1366) is an upgrade... So if you're on a tight budget, AMD can help you to a really sweet deal
