Looking at your memory marks there, the 2000CL8 is obviously faster? Albeit not by much, but the increase in bandwidth does show over 1600.

That was my point really. The difference between 1600 and 2000 is not that much, but mostly because I was able to do 1600 at tight timings. Yes 2000 is faster, but the difference in this case was small.

My point was that although higher frequencies seem to score better on i7, saying tight timings don't make a difference is not true, because tighter timings in this case made quite a difference. It did a good job of bridging a 400mhz gap smile.gif

IMC(uncore) doesn't really make a diference right? So 3500Mhz is fine, there wouldn't be a performance increase by upping it?

There is because it increases the speed of the caches and a few other functions. I found that it lowered my latency but your mileage may vary. On a Gulftown the requirement is 1.5x the Ram speed, obviously, the higher you run it you may see some benchmarks giving you better scores, but its nothing major.

Just make sure your IMC is up to the task. 3500 is plenty, since a 980 really only NEEDS 3000 uncore for 2000mhz ram.

Personally, If you have to drastically increase your QPI/VTT Voltage to get a higher uncore, then its not worth it.

Yep, for a 24/7 setting I try to maximize uncore while keeping QPI/VTT less than ~1.4V.

IMC speeds definitely improve memory performance.

Here's 2100 7-7-7 with 4.2GHz uncore:

Now here's 2000 7-7-7 with 4.8GHz uncore:

As you can see, the slightly slower memory did quite a bit better with a quicker uncore.

Dunno if you already bought the memories, but just to give you some feedback on the Corsair Dominators... don't buy them ... Just my 2 cents. I have Dominators and they really suck if you want to OC.

As for Super Talent, they're doing some of the best ram modules on the market

All of the Dominator GT's out now are PSC chips. However, if you find a set of the GT 2000 8-8-8 sticks, they're Hypers as well.

Regular corsair dominator cl8 kit is teh suck (at least mine was, micron d9 ICs, but not the good ones). Great for rated speed & timings, but won't go too far overclocking without heavy voltage increases.
Speaking of lower frequency with tighter timings, here's what i got some hypers to do in a recent memory overclocking competition using a 2:6 memory divider

Those were dominator GT, my super talent kit did the same timings but maxed out at 1440 Mhz.
