Abnormally high temps - Corsair H50?

Thread Starter
Hello all,

Seems like my Corsair H50/Phenom II X4 965 is acting up for some reason.

I get around 38-42c idle... The odd thing is that:

1) The CPU is NOT overclocked (Stock 3.6Hz at 1.33V)
2) I have it in a push-pull exhaust config with 2x CoolerMaster R4 fans (http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=4355)
3) Both of the fans are running at 2000RPM (maxed)

I tried re-applying the thermal paste... Didn't work...

The ambient temp here is about 23-25c and the motherboard is at 30c...

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Help MUCH appriciated!!

Thanks in advance!

Did you check the bios to make sure the pump is running full speed? A lot of times it gets plugged into a fan header and that header is throttled

The pump is running at max aswell, ~1400 to ~1450 RPM... It's connected to the "Power" header so that it doesn't get affected when I tune up/down the case fan speeds...

Load temps on Prime95 are around: 56-58c

Ain't that odd?

It is odd, its also approaching the theoretical max temp for that processor, be careful. My only thought is that it is not seated correctly.

Just to clarify, you mounted it once, it had poor temps, you pulled it off and cleaned all the stock TIM off with rubbing alcohol, then re-applied new TIM and tried again? When you re-applied new, how much did you put on. It seems to me that either
A) You didnt mount it well the first time and then the second you put too much/too little TIM or
B) either time it didnt get mounted well.

Those would be my two concerns

No that was an incorrect statement, it would be fine for an intel I series, not an AMD its one of the dangers of our forum with people doing drive by responses without fully reading what is going on or what equipment is being used

All of this.

OP-note the stock thermal compound on the Corsair Hydro units is quite good, being Shin-Etsu.
