MSI 770-C45 and 555 Black Edition Help

Thread Starter
I hate to totally sound like a noob but I'm frustrated and stuck. I know with black editions it's a hit and miss. It's the fact that I know I'm doing something wrong that gets me.

I'm using the latest bios 1E I believe it is. Green Power disabled AMD cool n quiet disabled. Unlock CPU Core enabled. Spread spectrum disabled. What should I place Advanced Clock Calibration at? When I place it in auto and reboot it hangs up. When I place it in Per Core option I can see four cores with the value of -2%. CPU core control? I leave it in auto. Auto Overclock technology disabled. I have tried multistep OC booster in mode 1 and 2 along with disabled. All of my voltages I leave in auto.

I'm sorry to nag you guys but I'm cooked. I'm new to this. I had tried unlocking when I first got my setup and couldn't, so I accepted it. As I have been reading more and new bios comes out I want to try it again. I just no that I'm doing something wrong. My board didn't come with instructions on how to use the options. MSI forums have been no help, seems not a lot of people buy this board.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Do not unlock cores on that board.
People have blown up the mosfets on this specific board (or I think it was the G45 variant) with 125W quad cores.
At stock.

Ask dixson01974. It's happened to him twice.

i have three 555 BEs. NONE of them unlocked. i'm running a 890FXE board. I have my 555 overclocked to 4.2ghz with it running ice cold @ 1.428 volts.

I'm very new to overclocking but figured i'd give it a try with my 770-c45 and x2 550. It succesfully unlocked to an x4 and i oc'd it to 3.5ghz. It took a little work but it got there and runs decently cool. Only problem is it dropped my ram performance a bit.

Very bad idea there.... basically you're asking for your board to blow up on you
770-C45 is a low end mobo from MSI with the same VRM problem as all else, running it with an overclocked 125W proecssor is not a good idea. Especially an unlocked x2, often due to extra voltage required those will consume more TDP than a straight up 125W quad

Thanks. Pretty clueless on all this. Just saw your huge thread on VRM's. Could i overclock safely without unlocking?

I'd think so, stock TDP without unlock is only 80W. Nothing over-stressful on VRMs until you pass 1.55V or so
