Nice MP3 player w/ best sound quality?

Thread Starter

My b-day is coming up and I'm looking to get an mp3 player based on sound quality. Which one is the best for under 150$? I listen to metal.

For earbuds, I'm thinking about getting

I don't use that much space so 8gbs should be enough. As an apple activist I'd like to stay away from ipoops

The player is only as good as the source audio that it's playing.
If it's garbage in it's going to be garbage out. If you have good quality MP3 rips of your music, then you will be fine. Look at Apple iPod Touch or even Zune HD.

I'm going to be using the mp3's from the CDs, so I suppose it's going to be as good as it gets

Make sure they are ripped in a lossless format for optimum quality. (Due note that lossless takes up a lot of space) Or 320kbps MP3 or whatever the highest is that you can rip it to.

uh right. Well I generally don't have a lot of songs and I haven't used more than 8gbs in mp3s anyways. I'd like to stay away from apple as well

Cowon or the Sandisk Sansa series have great audio chips. I have the Sansa and I love it. The apple Touch is not as good from reviews.

Is it just for music? Then the Cowon D2+ if you can get your hands on one, although they are pretty scarce these days. Its the only music player I've owned that I can leave on for two days playing music, and still have battery life.

Otherwise go with the iAudio 9:

just for music, I'll look at the cowon. Any recommendations for earbuds? I'd like to spend less than 50$

If that's all you're going to spend on earbuds, you don't really need to look at high quality MP3 players....
