ASUS P5B, insane CPU "socket" temps

I currently have the system in my sig.

I use CoreTemp and it will show a max temp of 55-57C at full load. Well, I also have Aida64 installed and it monitors the CPU Socket temp. At idle, it is around 50C and at full load, I've seen it as high at 74C! is this possible? 20C over the core temp readings?! My Core temps immediately drop to low 30C after exiting my game or closing Prime95.

I have the Zalman 9900LED CPU cooler and 4 other case fans installed. My case temps are usually 80F during my gaming sessions. Max ive seen is like 82-83F.

The core temp is the thing to look at. It's more likely to be a 'faulty' sensor. At stock speed the socket temperature should be below the core's temperature.

Well, I'm overclocked to 3.5Ghz. Its completely stable during real world usage, passes Prime95 for 7hrs and I have never seen a temp over 57C. Usually while playing CPU intensive games, its around 52-54C.

It was just really alarming to see that.
