Symptoms of my PSU dying?

Hi all

So I have an odd thing happening here. For the last week or so whenever I restart my computer or boot from cold my monitor settings were being reset to default. For example I have my screens positioned in a top-bottom config, and after every restart they would revert to Left-Right. Also , immediately following the windows logon screen appearing, my screen will flicker about 4-6 times. This is when the monitor reset takes place because I can drag my mouse to the top during this time then all the sudden the monitor is placed on the left.

Also sometimes when I boot up, Aero is disabled and my 2nd monitor isnt recognized yet. Then I hear the windows "found new hardware" sound and then the 2nd monitor will appear and Aero turns back on... Strange. Could this be signs that my PSU is dying? Its the Seventeam 850W Modular, purchased back in March 2010.

Things I have tried: roll back drivers from 260.99 to 260.89 (known working past last week). I also upgraded to the newest drivers from nVidia.

Thanks for any help!

A power supply issue would not cause anything like that. Look elsewhere.

This sounds like a GFX card problem. Especially the 'found new hardware sound', I think that the connection to your second monitor is dodgy and disconnecting, when it connects again it makes the new hw sound and resets the monitors back to default. Try switching the monitors connectors on the card (if its possible) and see which monitor drops out. If it's the different one on the same port the old one is on, its 99% graphics problem. Also aero getting disabled means the driver isnt communicating properly with the card. This is your sig rig right? Try just one card, see if it persists, then try the other one.

Perhaps try replacing your CMOS battery?

It sounds more related to something with the motherboard.

Thanks! All I did was moved my secondary monitor from my GPU1 to my GPU0 , the same card which the primary is on. All appears stable now, when I reboot there is no re-detection of my monitors anymore. I also reseated the cables on my back of my monitors themselves, so not 100% sure what fixed it. I just hope it keeps working Yes this is my sig rig.

Thanks agian, +rep
