i just dont get how 45nm i5&7's are 1.45v but 32nm are 1.52v.....

Have a hard time believing Intel would magically allow 1.5v on their chips now. Especially on a smaller die.

That data sheet has to be wrong, I heard that intel has changed datasheets before, maybe they will again. I know that I won't be pumping that many volts into my cpu for 24/7.

I would say just use some sense

1.4v maximum for 24-7 should keep you safe enough.

Though its usually people maxing the CPU PPL that fry there chips.... well what i've seen so far.

I agree! 1.4V is definitely my maximum!

Everybody that is pushing 5Ghz at 1.5v and above will soon have a nice smoked CPU. Intel will find a way to refuse the RMA by saying the data sheet was for ES samples and thus reviewers only. Watch for this in the next month!

Microprocessors are not this simple. There are a lot more factors that go into voltages allowances than just the size of the transistors. Think about it like this: a processor has billions of transistors. Do all of those transistors come out exactly the same size? Does every single interconnecting wire come out to the perfect width? Probably not. Manufacturing always has tolerances and microprocessors are no exception. Think about the binning process, some chips from the same assembly line can often magically just come out different. A processor can only be as strong as its weakest link, so a "perfectly" manufactured chip will have higher tolerances than one with randomly varying ones. Improving tolerances could go a long way in controlling max voltages.

That said, I don't claim to know the safe voltage of SB. Personally, I'm letting other people test their theories because I don't want to deal with burned up chips. I see this smaller = less voltage claim all the time and I had to address this. While it does make sense, its important to remember that in something as complicated a microprocessor, claiming that it HAS to have less voltage because its smaller is pretty foolish. It probably should have less, but lets not jump to conclusions either way. Time will tell.
