New Guy here, just wanted to see how my specs look to you and to hear your advice

Hey there folks,

I've been out of the game for some time now and decided to build myself a new rig.

I wanted your opinions and to see if theres any tweaks or recommendations you have to make my system work real nice.

I look forward to hearing from the many experts on this site!

MY SETUP:

ASUS P6X58D-E Mobo
Intel I7-950; 3.06GHz; 8MB Cache
ProlimaTech Megahalems CPU Heatsink (Has a crappy PC World budget fan on it for now, but that's actually pretty quiet and works well, will pdate that next though)
6GB Corsair Dominator 3X2GB (6GB Total) @ 2000MHz; DDR3 (Has the Airflow fan with it too, which I'm quite impressed with, may not bother changing this at all)
Antec Twelve Hundred Gaming Case w/850-CP Antec PSU
30GB SSD System Drive
1TB HDD (I can't remember the speeds but it seems good so far, time will tell, wasn't expensive so if it sucks I'll stick a better one in there)
ATI Radeon 5870 1GB GDDR5 w/Vapor-X Cooling Unit

Thats about it for now. I have a cheap and cheerful LG DVD/RW Drive too, but no doubt I'll go for a Blu-Ray drive down the line, although I'm not too big a fan of LG's BluRay Drives following a problem I had with one in the past, so might look to you guys for suggestions

I haven't looked at Overclocking yet, so everything is running at factory specs, but after giving it some time to settle in, I'll likely start to push it and see what it can really do!

So far it's running maybe a little louder than I would like, but nothing too bothering, plus I wear headphones most of the time anyway. I am impressed at how cold it's staying, currently at the factory settings it's running at about 30C.

I'm also wondering if it's worth me sticking a second 5870 in there to boost the Graphics capabilities, so would be cool if someone had an answer there for me! There's just about enough room in there to fit a second!

Any advice is well recieved, thanks for reading

My bad wrong thread on what initially posted...

I think it would def help with FPS/Gaming to go X-Fire in your sit.

Horrible...so bad in fact you should ship your rig to me

Pretty awesome build. CPU cooler I never have heard of, but looks pretty decent. I think you need to overclock your rig. What games are you wanting to play?

And Welcome!

Wow thanks, i'm glad to see my scrimping and saving hasn't been wasted!

Looks like I'll be putting a second card inthen judging the response, I'm also going to put a dedicated WLAN card in there too. I use a wireless dongle at the moment but thats rubbish

This was built with 2 things in mind, recording my music and to play Old Republic when its out.

I may 'stress test' it with Crysis 2 while I wait

your single 5870 would do fine most likely for old republic. Honestly OC your i7 to around 3.6-3.8ghz and you will be set for any game pretty close to max at 1080p or lower. What resolution are you running?
