Multi-Monitor help

Thread Starter
Hello everyone. I need some help before I start buying something I might not be able to use.

I got a GTX 460 GPU that handles my 2 monitors just fine. I want to add a 3rd one. My motherboard (Asus M4A88T-V EVO/USB3) has an integrated ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 4250 GPU. Can I plug my 3rd monitor in there? or is the Ati card disabled when I plug my GTX460? I also have another smaller and older video card laying around. Do I have to install this video card on the other PCI slot in order to add the 3rd monitor?

With either of these configurations will the 3 monitors function independent and like a extended desktop? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I don't think the onboard video card will work, I've tried with those at the same time as a GPU and they've never worked, so they probably do disable when the GPU is installed.
So yes, I'd install the extra video card, and it'll work fine.
In my case, I have a GTS 450 running my main and secondary monitors and a 6800GT running the third screen.
You may have framerate issues on the third monitor if the video card is quite old, I know I do.

Also, I'd recommend you get Ultramon,
http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/download.asp
It's a program that extends your taskbar and makes it easier to set up wallpapers and such on any multi-display setup. It also gives you a few handy buttons next to the minimise, maximise and close buttons on windows that make it easier to move and scale them.
Don't worry about registering or buying it, I've been using the unregistered version for a few years now.

Hope this helps.

Sadly, because your gpu cannot support 3 monitors like Eyefinity for AMD. You are restricted to have 2 monitors for 1 Nvidia card unless you add additional card to gain access with 3 monitors. You can try to disable Ati on board card in order to add old card for expansion to 3 monitor.

Great. Well i will try both options... maybe in the BIOS I can find where the onboard ATI is disabled. I'm not planning on spending too much time trying to figure it out so I might just install the second video card and use it.

About the FPS, I hope it doesn't affect the normal FPS of my main GPU. For example I will be running Flight Simulator X. Most of the time I run the main view on my main monitor on the 460, but I want to run another navigation program on the 3rd, this program uses the flight sim so i hope it doesnt affect the rates of my main monitor.

Thanks a lot for the help! rep+!
