This sucks, paypal is going to side with the buyer. They did the same thing to me even though I provided the proof that they required. Even if you cut off your bank account they'll still have the balance against you. You'll be unable to close your paypal account and they'll start harassing you with phone calls. If you wait too long they'll sell the debt to a collection agency and in that case it can hurt your credit score. Your best bet is to take action outside of paypal. You can try to scare the guy off by calling the authorities in his area, or you could threaten to take him to the small claims court if he doesn't back off the claim. This is why I staunchly avoid fleabay and scampal (they are the same company for those that don't know), they always kiss the buyer's *** and leave the seller out to dry. Besides doing this you should post his userID on this forum so we all know who to avoid.

Damm..this story makes me nervous. I once sold a CPU based on this same batch on [H]. No one knows how your case is going to end now. He obviously sold your CPU, but wants a refund. What a jerk and total loser. You can work with the buyer that actually bought this scammer's X58 board and [your] CPU. Tell him to file for a Paypal dispute, then don't send those items back. Send something old and crappy. Shove this guy's own fist up his *ss.

A prime example of why I never sell my old parts to anyone I do not know personally; as in, face-to-face I know where you live.

I would rather give away, or throw in the trash, a PC than use PayPal or EBay or Craigs List or even sell directly to someone on a forum. If I am going to lose money, I would prefer to just do it, rather than go through all the aggravation and at the same time line the pockets of "Services" such as PayPal, whom I believe could care less as long as they are taking their cut.

Sad but true, there are too many thieves and scammers out there in cyberspace.

OP, good luck, and hopefully you will at least take away a valuable lesson from all this.

I've done 20 transactions on OCN and not been scammed once. Granted I don't use paypal now but I guess its just that OCN just attracts the right kind of people. Plus its a lot easier to gauge the character of a forum member than just a random person on fleabay.

4. Send Paypal pictures of my chip, and the batch label on the box (thank goodness I kept my box).

I've already contacted the moderators at Anandtech, and guess that after doing the above, waiting is the next and only option for me.

Sigh...

Edit: I should contact the moderators at [H]ardforum and perhaps every forum I frequent as well, just to warn other traders.
With all of that info you're bound to win in the end.... if not with Paypal then through a small claims court. Best of luck to you!

I sold a phone to some **** that's on OCN and he broke it and did a PayPal chargeback about 4 months later. Even without proof of delivery I was able to dispute it and got back the money.

OP, dispute it with PayPal. It would be great if you do have proof of shipment but I think you'd be fine by providing them with all the private messages you have. By him saying that he has used the chip and it works, he is admitting that he received it and you fulfilled your end of the transaction. The chip's memory overclocking performance should not apply at all to the legitimacy of the transaction. He can RMA it with Intel (it should still be under warranty) state to PayPal that you are totally willing to offer him help with doing so if it is under warranty and that you have the original box for it.
