cannot get full gpu load from 4870x2 with x4 965 - Page 3

/off-topic: I don't know much about the test you're using, but can give a feed-back about the CPU being at fault. A CPU can't be low quality as long as it is stable at a certain clock speed. If it were a bad CPU it wouldn't have worked at such a high clock, but it can't be responsible for the low GPU utilization. The issues must be somewhere else (most likely in software): bench settings, drivers, etc.

its really confusing because 3 days ago i had an phenom II x4 925 in there, and it was oced to 3.4, it was stable, and when it wasnt stable it would run crysis on very high but pretty much splitting the image into long rectangle across the screen when i loooked around. then with bad company, if its unstable or bottlenecked, it stutters every second or two. when it was finally stable bad company ran at a great fps maxed out and crysis did ok exept during busy moments or evironment changes. anyway, stability on the 925 was found through intelburntest and prime95. im using both of those programs and they both say the processor is tits. but these two games are both having the exact same visual issues with the stable 965 as the unstable 925. as i write this prime 95 is going on small ffts. it went all night on blend and no issues. so if the 925 didnt bottleneck then why is my 965be???

Sounds like you have a problem with the video card then, not your processor/s.

i dont think its the video card, it was just working fine with the 925. i got the 965 off of ebay from a top seller, is there a possibility that i could get a crap chip? should i be talking to amd?

I think there's a problem with your video card, your CPU is fine. Even stock it shouldn't bottleneck a 4870x2.

You should be making sure your card is not the fault. I highly doubt you got a serious lemon because you'd be experiencing other issues if it were processor related.

Processors can handle a bit of abuse, to be sure. Video cards however, tend more often than not less abusable than CPU's.

i have the option of trading a guy the 4870x2 for a gtx280, but i really like the 4870x2. im gonna throw back in my 925, and screw around with it for a bit.

4870X2 is faster by a small amount.

However i would trade a 4870X2 for a GTX285 SSC in a heartbeat.
