the cpu only does so much work to run a game,once past a certain threshold, it doesnt matter how much faster the cpu is, it won't impact performance since the entire workload remaining is dependent on the gpu. This is true even for cpu-intensive games. The Amd cpu is more than capable to handle any game (assuming OC) so the deciding component on perfrmance falls on the gpu. In this case the 6970 wins

Why bash on the OP? He asked a question, and he's right: In a lot of situations the i5 rig will outperform the AMD rig. In gaming the AMD rig is going to win.
