gtx580 = 510
2600k = 329
M4E =349
=1190
980x = 1000
R3E = 369
=1369
baring in mind you only have dual channel memory too, and memorys pretty important for gaming, i dont think it will be worth it, but if you need the 3rd gtx580 for 3d surround then consider it if you want, but do you have 120hz monitors? you would also need them which could pay for at least 2 gtx580's(for 3 screens)?? its a tuff one, but i would keep big poppa

Pretty sure SB IMC is faster than 980x/9xx chips, resulting in better throughput... could be wrong there though.

wouldn't be selling til 2013 that isn't an issue lmao

980x and 2 GTX 580's folding vs. 2600k + 3 GTX 580's.
2600k uses dual channel ram too, yes?

Relatively easy 5ghz on air vs. 980x.

I...well, it's up to you.
post #55 of 62
people are saying stick with the 980x... Why when that has no future upgrades anymore. 1155 and 2011 will be an upgrade. Besides you will get more PPD with a third GTX 580 won't you???

Yeah mine needs 1.50v to hit 5GHz.

Plus you would need a new motherboard.
Are you on crack? Metro and Crysis will get EASILY maxed out by 2 GTX 580s. Hell even a single 580 with any of these 2 processors at 4GHz will make short work of them.

yeah but not all chips are equal, and this could be the reason the other person is swapping? havent done huge research on this, but i havent seen a maximus get past 4.7, but future bios updates should change this

When I say maxed out I mean full out maxing every possible setting, AA, AF, etc.

Have fun running that on 3 monitors.
