Semi new build won't boot

Thread Starter
I just upgraded to a new sandy bridge processor with an ASUS pro motherboard. I kept my harddrives, and did not reformat before rebuilding. I was expecting (maybe falsely) for the computer to be able to boot into windows. The bios recognizes the harddrive a 1TB Western digital (I unplugged other harddrives when having a problem) and selected it as the boot drive. When I restart it says:

Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media into selected device and press any key.

A catch is my DVD drive is veyr old and is IDE, this motherboard does not have IDE so I am temporarily without a DVD drive until I get another one. Any suggestions to get this machine to boot?

Think the only chance you have of doing that is to get hdd to boot on your old rig and remove ALL the drivers, graphics, sound, lan all that mobo stuff from your old mobo then try....Good luck

God making me put on my very old MCSE hat. This drive will not boot on your new build. Everything in the registry points to your old systems hardware. It is possible to get ghost images to transfer over but the equiv to the boot.ini files have to remain blank meaning not matched to the exact hardware. There are ways to get it to boot off your current DVD drive but you need an IDE to SATA converter... let me see if i can locate one.

*Edit* http://www.buy.com/prod/sata-to-ide-...216778540.html

For the cost you'd probably be better off running down to your local computer store and pick up a SATA DVD... will prob cost you about $25-30.
