Back when I was at home, my parents, over the course of three or four years, spent high 5-figure money on china and crystal. Now, we are fortunate enough to be able to afford it and not lose the house, but I still wonder how they can stomach spending SO much money on stuff that they will rarely, if ever, use.

ANY hobby or money pit is like this, really. It makes sense to the person who is spending money, while it looks like cash in a furnace to an onlooker. Basically, it's all relative to the person's enjoyment.

I also have a friend who collects knives. He spends tooonnss on nice knives, but what good is spending thousands on knives at the end of the day?

You may question your upgrade fever, but believe it or not, there's people just as crazy as us out there.
