1) it is not a remake
2) no - it did not have as big a userbase as wow - does that make wow good?
3)no - it will never be... which is one reason why it was SO GOOD
4) mmo's can be played with a controller IF you are playing the right mmo smile.gif
5) I'm not trying to convince you - just pointing out a fact.
6) The "14" remark was merely a tool to show your un-awareness of what CAN be done - easily and with comfort and joy!
7) biggrin.gif

game over.

Thanks for the ability to read! lol wink.gif

That's close to being the worst MMO of all time by a major developer.

Sorry, but No. "Seamlessly" and "Flawlessly" have no business being in the same sentence with FFXIV, regardless of the context.

Are you naturally stupid? Or do you get up early to practise?

I typed FFXI!

And, no - it is not my "benchmark" - I am not of the anally-retentive-clan who justify their posts with "benchmarks" - it was AN ILLUSTRATION OF THE FACT THAT IT CAN, AND HAS BEEN DONE.

gods!

Now as far as the technical difficulty of programing, it's not as hard as some would have you believe, though it's definitely not for most people as it can rack your brain for a year or two (or much less), depending upon your level of education (foundation), programming in itself is NOT difficult or complex.

You redundantly create functions, use simple math most of the time (excluding camera & positioning which require much more advanced math), and often you have many libraries / functions / etc pre-made (by other programmers) to work with, so it makes programming a VERY simple task as a gaming programmer today, indeed.

Not meaning to argue or point out that your wrong, just trying to be informative, for I've programmed for 4 years in gaming..
That's a really good point. I would imagine creating the engine for a platform (whether it's PC or consoles) would be very hard, but once you have that created and you give game developers the tools to make a game on that engine, it shouldn't be too hard.

so many angry ppl on here. No on is forcing u to play a MMO on a console, they are simply bring the option to console players so they can make more money. I didnt read every post cause some ppl are crying way too much.

Like many ppl have said FFXI is cross platform, Even when i playd on PS2 i used a key board i used the controller when i was lazy but the game can be played with out a mouse. Everyone gets angry cause they think the game is gonna change how it is played on the PC but it doesnt. I played WoW with a controller i just set it up just like FFXI was easy there wasnt anything menu wise or game play wise that i had to grab the keyboard for.

I think its a great idea, you cant get way more ppl playing the MMOs making the community even more vast than it is. The graphics arent gonna suck on the consoles but they wont look anywhere as good as the PC versions thats for sure. If SWTOR comes out on PS3 and X360 are you all not gonna play just because of that, or are u gonna shut up and play it on ur PCs like u were gonna do anyways?

Exactly. The only FF games even worth mentioning at 7 and 8. And the reason I said it was a remake is because they keep putting out FF games like mad, but not with near the same quality as before when they were good.

I remember older games in both consoles and pc had much more carefull quality control before the final release since not everyone had internet access to install updates or patches. If the game included a bug it would be catastrophic.

But now I see even console game producers releasing patches and upgrades since they are rushing to release the game as soon as possible. As a result they have many bugs.

So now pc and console games have something in common unimaginable a few years ago. though in the PS3 the updates last a lot, plus constant firmware updates are very annoying.

FFXI was an amazing game if you bothered to give it a chance, and was/is very successful. It's the 2nd largest mmo besides WoW, nothing wrong with it at all. It's rare for an mmo to have such a high focus on storyline too, which is why it's my favorite I'd go as far as to say some of its expansion packs are my favorite story lines in the whole FF series.

But anyways, it's a perfect example of how it can be done. I even prefer playing the game with a usb controller because it feels better and I can perform actions quicker. The only downside the game has ever had is it can never see a graphics update because of being cross platform
post #150 of 197
No we don't.

When you focus on visuals more than the game itself, you end up with a game like Aion.
