[MCV]Sony: ‘Gamers want HD console MMOs’ - Page 10

I'll suffice to say that on the very first point you are arguing something I never argued for or against in the first place.

My little list simply states what consoles are geard towards to. What the primary design factors are. Then you go off on pulling that out of context and go "But omg a PC can play media content so much better"? Way to go Mr. Strawman. I never denied such. What have console design decisions to do with what PCs can do better?

I'm not even going to bother with the rest of the cut up post.
Nice way to completely miss the point, I was replying to your post about console gaming, I said PC was better (Yes, not related to what you say...But forums are for posting opinions on, you know?) and that one of my friends who is very much a console gamer said so himself, I then pointed out why a PC beats a console at nearly each of its design factors even though half of them are not primary ones.

Please, feel free to reply with a real argument instead of pointing out that I reply (usually) to different points by separating it with quotes.

Even so, in the long run PC gaming would be cheaper thanks to Steam and cheaper release prices.
No doubt. The extras you're speaking of like Blu-Ray would bump the costs up. Be fair, though. PS3s have always been and still are sold at cost. That's almost like saying I can get a 980x for $400 brand new. I'm not arguing that part; at exactly $300, a PS3 is a better buy. But you can't just spend $300, else you're stuck with just a PS3 with demos to play. I'd say $500 vs. $500 is where the difference changes. (A pretty modest figure for gaming enthusiasts) You can get so much more value out of a PC when you reach that range.

All the Source games though are VERY well optimized IMO. They squeeze out every drop. I've run L4D2 with onboard video, 1080p, all medium settings, no AA, very smoothly at above 30fps. I build very frequently as I'm in the business so I have lately been tweaking and working with all kinds of setups. That L4D2 runner was a tiny HTPC shuttle, I really loved building it.

Really? Is that why in the article it states:

But Sony says its customers have told them that they want to play massively multiplayer online games in surround sound and on HD screens

While I was a big fan of Phantasy Star Online on Dreamcast, I can't see REAL MMO's making a huge splash on consoles...at least as stated, not this generation.

Yeah, at a certain point you can get a good valued PC, no doubt.
[offtopic]Though, L4D2 is a horrid example, it was trash. I was so disappointed in it. I preordered it, skipped school, and timed my sleep cycle to wake up the moment it was released to enter the day playing it like a beast. It was the biggest disappointed in my life. Not only the game play, but the graphics was sub par. [/offtopic]

There is keypad attachment for the PS3 controller, so they could port a PC MMO over, they just need to remap the key in a way that the players don't have to use the tiny keys for the essential game functions.

Or like the PS2 they can just use any standard USB keyboard for MMO's? Played FFXI on the PS2 for 2 years before I managed to get a PC fast enough to run it. Used my Logitech Media Center keyboard just fine.

And like others have stated, I don't understand the hate against games now a days. Just play em and be happy.

Consoles are no place for true MMO's. The trend is to buy the newest most advertised game play it for a week and then buy the next.
I played EQ:OA on PS2 and FFXI and the only serious players bought a console to play the MMO.
PC on the otherhand... I could still contact literally dozens of people who I used to play EQ with for years that are still playing it to this day.

This is Sony's attempt to bring players to PS3 to play FFXIV thats all this is. Remeber they have shares in squenix.
