unlocked cored and cpu-tweaker

Thread Starter
Hi, I'm a noob to this board, but here's my question and hopefully I can get to the bottom of this. I bought 3 7850's for builds, 1 for me and 2 for customers....2 have stepping JAARB AA and those both are a pain to OC and I've been researching and it seems as those are resent to AMD and have been "refurbed" and put back out with the new stepping code, however, 1 had the original stepping of JAAA AA and this is the one I use and got 3.4 with simple voltage jump. In the bios if I go to ACC per core it shows 4 cores but when I boot into win7 only show 2 but then I start up cpu-tweaker and it's showing 4 active cores all running at 3.4GHz...can somebody shed some light on this..am I running 4 cores and windows just isn't being nice and installing the software for the extra 2 cores or what is going on...I would think that cpu-tweaker wouldn't show them as active cores if they were not functioning..I'm a+ certified but new to this core unlock game....processor is a 7850 BE

Thanks for any input on this matter

From this thread:

I see X4, but I only have 2 cores!?!?
Some users have been reported seeing the "X4" designation, but no unlocked cores when verifying through CPU-Z. Please ensure that you have set Windows to use all 4 cores by going to "msconfig --> Boot --> Advanced Options --> Number of Processors." If you still don't see unlocked cores, then most likely that your disabled cores are defective.
this thread might help too. The older generation athlons and phenoms are nowhere near the performers in overclocking/unlocking as the athlon/phenom II's

good luck.

thanks for the info, I tried it and only get 2 active cores, cpu tweaker still shows 4 active, however, only 2 show activity the other two show a temp of around 38c but the activity meter is flatlined so I guess I got one with bad cores which is no biggy, I got a phenomII x2 coming very soon to unlock and play with....this one I can just hand down to my oldest boy for his gaming machine since it overclocks so well. Again thanks for the help and info
