Help OCing M4A88TD-M Evo

post #1 of 10
Thread Starter
Hi

First of all, although I am not a total n00b with overclocking, I am by no means an expert. Okay so, I have been trying to OC my CPU + Ram and thus far I have:

-Phenom II 555 BE (unlocked 4th core, third was unstable)
@ 3982GHz (295 x 13.5) - 1.488V (Aux Temp (AIDA64) 35-37C Idle , 45-48C under load (2+hours) [Cooler: ThermalRight IFX-14 + 3 x 140mm fans 900-1400rpm

- 2GB Corsair XMS3 CM3X1G1333C9DDR3-1333 DDR3 (6-6-6-18 @ 590 MHz)

- Asus M4A88TD-M Evo mobo

I have not yet Prime95 for my usual 12hours. But it seems stable after 15mins Prime95. Any pointers anyone can give me? Or are there any glaring mistakes I made?

The Aux temp in AIDA64 is the same as the CPU temp in HWMonitor. But it's not the same as the core temps, when people say 55C is too high for a cpu, are they referring to the core temps or to the aux temp?

Thanks

looks pretty good man. imo, you get better performance at higher ram speeds with looser timings than backing it down with tighter timings. find out what the max v for your ram is (my dominator's "suggested max" is 1.8) and see if you can get ~700.

nice nb overclock. whats your cpu-nb v and temps?

as for the core/cpu temp, i usually go with the socket temp. for my 1090t and 970, the core temp stays about 5-8*c lower, so i try to keep my cpu temp / tempin1 below 55.

good luck. welcome to ocn!

Thanks man

I took you're advice;

RAM = 780MHz ; 9-9-9-24 --I'm still trying to tighten the timings a little.
CPU = 295x14
HT Link = 2065MHz
CPU-NB = 2360MHz

VCore = 1.475V
DRAM = 1.74V
NB = 1.25V
HT = 1.2V

After seeing my HT Link was set at 2950MHz, I googled and afaics suggested Freqs were +- 2000MHz for HT LInk and (RAM Frequency*3) for CPU-NB are these accurate or are they old?

I got about 400ms (17.2 vs 16.8) more on SuperPI than with my original posted specs : /

Just limit the voltage (i.e. try to avoid going above 1.5V and using ridiculous voltages), you're on a 4+1 unheatsinked power phase but you're also running a triple core (~95W at stock, below 125W overclocked) so it's not as bad.
near-1600 9-9-9 is a good start. See if you can manage 8-9-8 or 8-8-8 on it.
Lower the HT link to 2000Mhz +/- 100Mhz and you're good. It does not benefit you and may actually hurt stability.

Thanks I just got it bootin' at 295x13.5 and 8-8-8-24 @ 785MHz -- but I have not yet Prime95'd it. HT Link is still set at 2065MHz. Wht should the CPU/NB Freq be? 3* Ram Freq?

Thank you for all the help

How the hell were you able to adjust NB voltages? I RMA'd mine because it never had the option in BIOS, among other reasons.

About 3x RAM frequency or as high as possible. There are points where high CPU-NB no longer provides gains, but higher CPU-NB clock will usually provide gains if set over 2000Mhz regardless of RAM settings (even if you're running 800Mhz 11-11-11).

Thanks a lot for your help thus far.

I use HWMonitor to check my temps, and the processor power is listed as 173.60W. That has me slightly worried xD Seems high?

3 core 250x16.5 (Had to drop NB, it doesn't pass more than 1 hours' Prime95 and I ran memtest98 to eliminate the memory as the problem).

I'm pretty sure I had the latest BIOS and I never had the AiTweaker tab.... ***
